GUARD THE DEPOSIT ENTRUSTED TO YOU

2 Timothy 1 : 1-18

Hold firmly to the true words that I taught you, as the example for you to follow, and remain in the faith and love that are ours in union with Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 1:13)

We are encouraged to firmly hold to the words of truth that we have received from the authority of the word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Whenever we read, listen to a teaching/preaching or watch a biblical related movie, there is always a deposit of God’s message to us; that is entrusted into our lives to guard, live accordingly and spread the same.

As pilgrims upon the face of the earth, we learn from the words of our Master through His anointed and dedicated servants. They are charged with the responsibility of entrusting His words to others.  We on the other hand are encouraged to follow their examples and remain in the faith.

We should not be ashamed in identifying ourselves with the authority of the words of our Master by making ourselves available as His witness to the lost souls. What we have received from His word is not just for us, but it is deposited in our hearts as an instrument to reach out to others.

In the process of guarding the deposit of His voice in us, we may face several challenges and misunderstandings. We should not lose faith or be ashamed, while going through these challenges in our lives. We should continue to hold fast to the true words of the Lord, received from true teachings through His servants.

Listen to what the Wisdom literature has to say to us on this account. It highlights the benefits of guarding the wisdom given to us through His word. Get wisdom and insight! Do not forget or ignore what I say. Do not abandon wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will keep you safe. Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. Whatever else you get, get insight. Love wisdom, and she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will bring you honor. (Proverbs 4:5-8 GNB). In the light of this, we should endeavour to hold firmly to the faith we profess, because He did not save or call us to be His people by virtue of what we have done but He called us to Himself by His grace through Christ Jesus even before creation. We are peculiar people set aside for divine purpose to exhibit the Master’s glory.

God did not only want us to hold firmly to the true words we are taught, but to follow then as examples by holding fast to that which is entrusted to us. God has appointed me as an apostle and teacher to proclaim the Good News, and it is for this reason that I suffer these things. But I am still full of confidence, because I know whom I have trusted, and I am sure that He is able to keep safe until that Day what He has entrusted to me. (2 Timothy 1:11-12)

Think on:

It doesn’t matter what life looks like now or will appear to be in the faith and service of our Master. One thing that is sure is that we have been given the privilege of serving Christ, not only by believing in Him, but also by suffering for Him.
