If we aren’t careful as Christians, we can put ourselves on a pedestal and soon look down on those who don’t measure up to us! A part of our reading today speaks to us about how we need to share one another’s burdens and thus fulfill the Royal Law of Christ, which is love! There is both the responsibility of the godly Christian and the errant Christian that we will focus on our meditation today.

The responsibility of carrying another’s burdens: The Christian is not one who keeps to himself but is concerned about the welfare of the family of God he/she belongs to.  Just as Christ our Master set the example of laying down His very life to win us back to God, we too are called to lay down our lives for our brethren (John 15:13).

• Gently and humbly helping a weak/fallen brother (Gal 6:1): When finding out that your fellow brother/sister is in the wrong or gone astray, it doesn’t help to stand with arms crossed and blame him/her but to gently help him/her back on track! The story of the Prodigal (Luke 15) points us to the God of second chances-the father’s love and forgiveness restored him to all his former status in his household! God’s love that showed us mercy when we were sinners needs to extend to the one in sin to bring him back to fellowship with God and one another.

 

• Carrying the burden in prayer (Gal 6:2): Part of carrying the burden of the weak brother/sister is lifting him/her up to the throne of grace continually-praying that the Holy Spirit will bring conviction in his/her heart to turn to God in repentance.

 

• Keeping track of your own actions (Gal 6:3&4): In the process the Christian is not to think too highly of himself lest he fall. He must understand that each of us is accountable to God and judge himself correctly(1Cor.11:31).

 

The responsibility to keep on doing the right thing: Christian life is one of responsibility. Being saved is only the beginning of our walk with Christ. Making right choices while reading God’s Word and keeping in step with the indwelling Holy Spirit will help us in our journey.

• Sowing to our corrupt nature Vs sowing to the Spirit (Gal 6:7&8): Romans 8:14 says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” If a believer does not yield to the Holy Spirit, he/she can succumb to the temporary pleasures of the sinful nature. If one continues to sow to the flesh, it will only bring the wrong fruit of destruction. But if one listens and obeys the Spirit of God it will lead one to eternal life. Galatians 5:16 [AMP] makes it clear: “But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].

 

• Not giving up, waiting for right harvest (Gal 6:9): If the Christian does not give up doing what is right, his/her life will yield the right fruit of blessings! The fruit of the Spirit (Gal.5:22-23) will be evident throughout his/her life!

Let us examine ourselves today, “Test yourselves and find out if you really are true to your faith. If you pass the test, you will discover that Christ is living in you. But if Christ isn’t living in you, you have failed.” (2Cor.13:5 CEV) If we have gone off course from what Christ has shown us through His life and His Word, let us return and continue to be right on the right course!

Prayer: Heavenly Father I am sorry for all the “detours” in my life. Bring me back on track and may my life be blessed this day on, in YOU! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
