2 Corinthians 5 : 1-21

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God Himself and not by human hands -2Co 5:1(NLT)

In this very important chapter, Apostle Paul, gives us the perfect picture of our  eternal destiny in Christ. Jesus on the verge of His departure from this world told His disciples- John 14:2-3: “There is more than enough room in My Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am.”

The hidden mystery of Eternal life and Eternal home are not understood by the natural man because it is spiritually discerned. 1Cor.2:7: “No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—His plan that was previously hidden, even though He made it for our ultimate glory before the world began.”

1Cor.2:9-10:  That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.

In our journey to eternity, God intends us to work out our salvation on the true knowledge of the Word of God-through His Spirit. Philippians 2:12: “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”

How do we work it out?

2Peter 1:3-4:  “… has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him … given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that .. be partakers of the divine nature…” The eternal perfection God intends for our life is that of Jesus Himself. So in order to attain this we need to work diligently.  2Peter 1:5-7: “… giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.”

The building blocks for our eternal life is given to us in this life itself. It is for us to work diligently towards acquiring these heavenly qualities and thereby reach the heavenly shore to possess our eternal home. So in order to be clothed with this new heavenly home (Eternal body) we need to have the divine nature. That is the reason why Peter encourages us with all diligence; to make our calling and election sure. 2Peter 1:10-11: “… be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom ….”

Are we diligent enough to work out our salvation? The building blocks for our eternal home are provided by God in this life –‘in Christ.’ It is for us to go after Him by faith and acquire it on a daily basis. If we fail to have this we will be the big losers in the world to come. Many Christians are unaware of this heavenly truth and are only concerned about the things of this world and hence their diligence is fully utilized in amassing blessings of this life. Paul laments over this in 1Cor.15:19: “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.”

Goal  ILife:  Perfect in Christ!
