Fullness of Joy in Life

Monday, 25 February 2019

1 John 1 : 1-10

“And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.” -1 John 1:4

Man yearns for joy but rarely experiences the fullness of joy in life. This is because he is looking for joy through the worldly and material things of this world. The end result is disappointment, discouragement and despair. 1 John 1:4 speaks of attaining fullness of joy.

How can we attain this fullness of joy and how can we have everlasting joy?

  • By walking in the light

  • By walking in the truth.

Jesus is the light:  Jesus in John 8:12 said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” God is light and there is no darkness in Him. We need to examine our lives on a day to day basis to see if we have the light in us. We all know that plants tend to bend towards the source of light. Are we leaning on our Source of light, Jesus? If we are following Christ every day of our lives in His footsteps, we are willing to obey His commands. We grow in our fellowship with Him and one another.

Do we follow Christ in our words, thoughts and actions? Do we have the light of life? If not, make a decision today to willfully follow Jesus because He is the light and He assures you that if you follow Him you will never be in darkness. We have no light of our own. When we receive Jesus into our hearts and decide to follow Him, our hearts and lives brighten up, His light shines upon us and we become the light of the world.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

Jesus is the truth:  Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” God created man so he could fellowship with him but this precious and loving fellowship was broken through the sin that Adam committed in the Garden of Eden. Sin entered the world and ever since Adam, we are all born into this sinful world and we fall short of the glory of God (Rom.3:23). Are we destined to die in sin, never being able to fellowship with God?  NO!! The truth is God sent His Son to die for the sins of the world. Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross to restore our fellowship with God. It is through the blood of Jesus that we regain this fellowship with God.  His blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness.  All we need to do today is confess all our sins to Him who has promised to forgive our sins, accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life! He came to set us free, free from sin, free from condemnation and free from death.

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32).

Friend, if you need the fullness of joy in life you can receive it through Christ Jesus!

Prayer: Loving heavenly Father, we come to You for the fullness of joy in our lives through Your Son, Jesus Christ. We acknowledge that He is the light and the truth. Help us, Father to walk in the light and in the truth all the days of our life. May our joy be complete in Him.  In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
