Luke 21 : 25-38

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” -Luke 21:33

Jesus Christ is God Almighty in the human form- God the Creator who dwelt with His creation on the earth. During His ministry on earth, Jesus declared the will of God concerning the destiny of mankind and the end times. We should take note that God always endorsed the words of Jesus Christ – Matthew 17:5:“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” Therefore, whether anyone believes it or not, the course of events that have to happen in future is well set and will happen exactly the same way Jesus has spoken about it!

Our reading today is one of such discourse, where Jesus stated the events at the end of this age! Verse 27 says “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”  When contrasted with His first coming we can notice the significant differences between the two. During the first time, He came as a baby having willfully taken the frailty of human beings, in a human body that was susceptible to all temptation. But at the second coming He is going to come in His glorified body. At the first time He came as a baby, but in future He is going to come in Might! The first time, He came to pay the penalty for the sins of the world; but in the second, He is coming to take His saints to heaven! During His first tenure in the world He was judged by a human king, but in the second He is going to judge the whole world! While on earth He was under the jurisdiction of an earthly kingdom, but in future He is going to come as King of kings to establish HIS Kingdom!!

As it is written in Hebrews 9:28 He is going to come for the salvation of those who eagerly wait for Him. Jesus Himself spoke in reference to His Second Coming: “…However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:8) In the book of Acts, Paul when ministering to the Church leaders said that “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” (Acts 14:22) Hence we know that those times will be tough with many of the events that occur at the end.

Further, Jesus explains in detail the various signs that will take place pointing to the time of His coming. As we could see many of those signs happening in the world, we should be clear in our mind that the coming of Jesus Christ is very near. Rather than spending our time to find the details on the exact timing of His coming (which Jesus Himself said He or no one in heaven except the Father knows), let us focus on the preparatory actions from us in order to be received by Him when He comes .

  • STAND: Stand firm in the hope of your redemption (Luke 21:31)

  • GUARD: Be on guard so that you will not be caught with the affairs of the world and that day will not be a trap for you (Luke 21:34)

  • PRAY: Keep the vigil through prayer! At all times pray for strength to escape the tribulation and to stand before Jesus (Luke 21:36).

In Luke 21: 35, Jesus confirmed that day will come upon all those who dwell on the face of the all the earth. So the only way to face that day is to Stand, Guard and Pray! Will you prepare yourself for His Coming?

Thought for the Day:

Take heed of what Christ Jesus spoke about His Second Coming! It will come to pass!
