2 Corinthians 6 : 1-13

“Working together with Him, we strongly urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain [by turning away from sound doctrine and His merciful kindness].” -2 Corinthians 6:1 [ Amp]

It is becoming increasingly vital in this age that we gain wisdom and live wisely. If we find the right kind of wisdom it would lead us to life and favour from the Lord. The wisdom of the world is foolishness to God (1 Cor.3:19), the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing (1Cor. 1:18). The Word of God teaches us about two kinds of wisdom— earthly wisdom and heavenly wisdom (James 3:13-18). What we need to seek is heavenly wisdom, choosing to soak our hearts in God’s wisdom, because it transforms the way we think and our attitude about what is going on in this world.

The world seeks all that is in the process of perishing. But we who are God’s children should seek an imperishable crown.  Moses asked God to show him His ways, so he could know Him and find grace and favor in God’s sight. This is what differentiates us from the rest of the world: God’s grace and favor! In today’s reading Christ is personified as “Wisdom,” being with God from the beginning. “I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. ….Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman…” (Prov.8:23;30). It speaks of Christ in Col.2:3 as, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”   1 Cor.1:24 says Jesus is the wisdom of God. So, when we seek Christ and all that is in Him we are complete in Him!

If we need to be part of God’s divine plan, we need to let God and His wisdom rule our lives. When all our choices are guided by the wisdom that comes down from heaven, then the outcomes of our choices are full of life. When all our decisions are made with the wisdom that comes from the earth, they reap gloom and ultimately death. We will bear the consequences of all our choices! But there is hope for all of us who have made the wrong choices in life so far—we can repent of our wrong choices and turn to Christ for His forgiveness. His blood cleanses us from all sin and will make us anew!  The course of our life then takes a new turn. We can then ask Him for wisdom and His direction all of our life. If we choose Jesus today, we have chosen life and favour from the Lord from now on.  But whoever fails to find Him harms himself; all who hate Him love death.

Wisdom of the earth, fleshly and devilish, produces children of darkness and destruction. Children whose lives are a disaster are the lack of the right wisdom and the consequences of wrong choices. Wisdom from heaven produces children of life, and light, and truth, and peace, and blessing. Children of heavenly wisdom grow up to handle their lives with integrity, taking responsibility for the outcome of their choices. The greatest choice in wisdom anyone can make is choosing to become a child of God; the second is choosing to live as one (Eph.5:8-17). Every choice from then on needs to be driven by the Holy Spirit who now leads the child of God. God’s children use heaven’s wisdom daily before a watching world.

The wisdom of God through His Word transforms our mind and renews us in every way when we cooperate with the Holy Spirit who enlightens us through the Word. The Spirit of who searches the deep things of God reveals what God wants to communicate to us (1Cor.2:11,12). The Spirit transforms us by degrees as the Word works in us. Each day we should acknowledge Him and trust Him to work out His will; trusting Him over our circumstances is being wise.

Proverbs 8: 34 says, “Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.” May we learn to wait on Christ the Wisdom, daily to direct our lives according to His plan.
