Romans 1 : 18-32

"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened...” -Romans 1: 21

Paul’s Epistle to the Romans is a mandate for Christian living. Along with laying the fundamentals on which Christian faith is built, Paul also gives enough admonitions to take heed. Today’s reading gives a graphic description of what happens to those who are unable to fulfill the purpose of their existence because of the rejection of the authority of God over their lives.

God’s wrath is upon the unrighteous and ungodly who live their lives rejecting God’s truth. That which is known about God is plain to all. Rom 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” It is evident within each individual and all around him! God has set eternity in the heart of man (Eccl.3:11). Besides as it says in Psalm 19:1-2 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.”

So Man has no excuse for not acknowledging the existence of God as the source of everything good thus giving Him all the glory.  But when man does not give God the glory we can see the commencement of the wrath of God upon them and little by little their corrupt mind leads them to commit ungodly acts (Romans 1:21-32). Soon, their depraved minds lead their lives to be filled with all kinds of unrighteousness! We see all these sins described here, in our days as Peter wrote: “… knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:3-4).

But those who know the truth and are being kept by the Word of God on the right path, should watch and pray and conduct their lives pleasing to God, so that in the day of the Lord they may be found of Him. We have to be careful not to be led away with the error of wrong ways and fall from our own steadfastness. We also should be careful not to look down upon people who have gone astray, nor to follow in their steps. We are called to be separate but also pray to the Lord of Harvest for these souls; for God reasons, “Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23). God’s will is that none perish.

God affirms that if they turn from their ways to His they will live. So how will they know how and where to turn? Romans 1:16 gives the answer: the Gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16); from unrighteousness to righteousness by faith! (Romans 1:17)

Friend, are you rejecting God and all His truth? Would you reject those sins you are convicted of, turn from your futile living and choose to know your Creator? Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, invite Him into your life; His blood can cleanse all your sin! You will be saved! (Refer Acts 16:31)

Thought for the Day:

“There are three of you. There is the person you think you are.  There is the person others think you are.  There is the person God knows you are and can be through Christ Jesus.” ~Billy Graham
