FREED FROM SIN?

Psalm 130

Sunday, 14 January 2024

“But there is forgiveness with You…… And with Him is abundant redemption.” -Psalm 130: 4&7

The Bible unlike other books of this world has a completely different viewpoint when it comes to repentance. Throughout the Word of God-from the beginning till the end, we see the theme of repentance -on how God wants His people to repent. The repentance that the Bible teaches us, is not only turning from sin but changing one’s mind and turning to God, which produces right actions: “… that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.” (Acts 26:20)

This is a wonderful Psalm of a person’s repentance and his plea for mercy to the Lord.  The writer of this psalm very clearly knows his iniquities; he is also sure that he can never ever hide his iniquities from the Lord (V.3) and he expects forgiveness from Him. This proves that he knows the Lord in an intimate way. He knows that if he will turn to his Lord, he will be forgiven (V4). How many of us have such a relationship and such an attitude towards God?

It is very easy to be double-faced and fool people; the eyes of people cannot see beyond our face. Unfortunately many think God can be fooled. Hebrews 4:13 says: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give accountHow foolish to compare the human eye with the Lord’s! Sin will have its consequence if not dealt with.

Dear friend is any past sin bothering you? Are you so guilt-ridden within your conscience? Do you want to forget your past and move on with an assurance of forgiveness? The solution is simple –TURN TO THE LORD JESUS whom God has sent to redeem you and I from sin. He has taken every sin on Himself and by His death appropriated God’s forgiveness for us. Acts 10:43 says: “Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.” The moment you turn with faith and "…you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness." (1John 1:9) Besides his shed blood cleanses our conscience— how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience…” (Hebrews 9:14) Only He can set you free from the sin which has enslaved you for years!

It is not only forgiveness that the Lord offers you; there is His mercy and abundant redemption (V.7)- His precious gifts from His treasury.

For those for whom the word ‘Redemption’ is new, here is a brief explanation: the dictionary meaning of redemption is ‘buying back something’ and the biblical meaning of redemption is ‘action of saving or being saved from sin.’ The Sin of disobedience of Adam led us to come under Satan’s authority from God’s authority because Adam fell in the trap of Satan by obeying him; as a result, the whole mankind born after Adam have been enslaved to Satan. Unless sin is dealt with, there is no relationship with God.

It is Jesus who delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to His kingdom (Col.1:13). Jesus bought us by paying a price (1Cor.6:20). He shed His precious blood on the cross and redeemed us (Rev.5:9). Come to Jesus: All who want to be redeemed! He is the Way, the Truth and Life! (John 14:6). You can receive forgiveness and life eternal in Him!

Thought for the Day: “The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ.” - Charles Spurgeon
