"They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." -Isaiah 11:9
Isaiah is a miniature Bible in its content. The first 39 chapters contain the judgment of God upon earthly kingdoms filled with sin and unrighteousness. The second half with twenty seven chapters are filled with hope of the coming messianic kingdom. After describing the horrible destruction of the Assyrian kingdom in chapter 10, Isaiah comes out with a fresh wind of hope by prophesying about the shoot that sprouts out of the stem of Jesse. This is a direct prophecy related with the first and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the coming king to establish a righteous kingdom giving hope and freedom to His people, where no trace of evil will exist..
The establishment of the righteous kingdom of our Lord is directly related with the earth being filled with the knowledge of the Lord, like the waters covering the sea. Habk. 2:14 says: For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. It is very evident that right kind of knowledge will bring in right perspective and hence right attitude and right behavior. Unless light dispels darkness, there is the chance of the gloom which comes with darkness. The present age is a mixture of both. Soon this will pass away and the heaven and earth will be filled with the glory of the right knowledge of the Lord. This will in turn bring the establishment of the Kingdom of God.
Right now the Kingdom of God is established in the hearts and lives of all those who are for the Lord. He reigns in their lives in glory. The establishment of the Kingdom of God resultant to the right knowledge of God brings in fear of God and thus obedience. Where there is lack of knowledge of God the people perish. So this is the principle which is underlying the establishment of the kingdom of God.
The kingdom of God has a king who is the source of all blessings that this futuristic kingdom is going to enjoy. Hence we see that the Root of Jesse is filled and anointed with the Spirit of God. Isaiah 11:1-2: There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. The seven fold blessing of the Spirit of God shall be the mark of the kingdom established under our Lord. This is spoken regarding the Holy Spirit and this same Spirit is given to the Church. And it is through the church this blessing is flowing out to the dark world that is perishing without the knowledge of the Lord.
Dear reader/listener, you and I are the shoots through whom the real blessing of the knowledge of the Lord through His Spirit is to flow out into this dark and perverted world. Be a vessel that pours out this knowledge and brings in light into the life of numerous people. May God bless us all to fulfill this vision of God to fill this earth with the knowledge of the glory of our God.
To Ponder: But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7)
