2 Kings 6:1-23

Wednesday, 31 March 2021

And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." -2 Kings 6:12 [ESV]

The Almighty God protects His children that take refuge in His care. Every day we face the enemy of our soul in different ways, hidden behind many opportune positions and lying in wait to attack us. This being a stark reality, how do we deal with it? The enemy comes in myriads of camouflages to waylay God’s people. But God's word provides us comfort, by showing us the greater protection that is provided for a child of God. Godly protection for His children are:

  • He is a wall of fire around us (Zechariah 2:5): "And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst."

  • He covers us with His wings (Psalm 91:4): "He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler."

  • He sends his angels to guard us (Psalm 91:11): "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."

Above are some of the protections we enjoy. Being under His protection is not enough, we have a real fight against the real enemy. For fighting, we need the power, authority, weapons and strategy from God. Without this we will not be able to advance in our Christian walk and His kingdom work.

1 John 5:19 (ESV) says: We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. As we advance, we need to know the tricks of the evil one so as to fight with precision and to win the battle for the glory of the Lord. This is where we need the powerful weapon of prayer. Prayer is a very powerful weapon through which we communicate with the Father in heaven and at the same time we fight the enemy with the authority given to us. We know that in the war we see in this world, they use many different advanced technologies to track the movement of the enemy and this helps them to formalize the strategy against the enemy. Similarly, we need to know when and where the enemy is moving. This in turn will help us to attack with pinpoint accuracy. God reveals to us the secrets of the enemy through our prayers.

Today's reading is the best example to show us how this works. The King of Syria was warring against God's people and Elisha prayed and received directions from God and helped the King of Israel. God revealed to Elisha the ambush plans of the enemy (2 Kings 6:8-12). The man of God on receiving the counsel of God warned the king time and again of the enemy’s strategies so that the danger was diverted. Besides when the enemy came to surround the man of God, He sent horses and chariots of fire around Elisha to protect him (V.16).

Similarly, we can know the way in which the enemy is advancing. The enemy fears us when we pray. So it is his strategy to keep us from prayer. Many of us are very sluggish in our prayer. If we start praying; God will reveal the secrets of the enemy. The sword of the Spirit- the Word of God can be used precisely when we know the hidden tactics of the devil. May God help us to use this weapon powerfully to fight against our real enemy.

Prayer: LORD Almighty teach me the power of prayer and help me understand Your power that works on behalf of Your children who trust You. Amen
