Matthew 12 : 1-21
“And in His name the nations shall trust. -Matthew 12:21
Our key verse is quoted from the book of Isaiah and it has been fulfilled and is being fulfilled every day as more and more people are coming to the Lord and believe in Him as their Lord and Saviour.
As Bible scholars say Adam and Eve’s sin was not a surprise to God- God in His foreknowledge was aware of the sin they would be commit in the Garden of Eden and the way for redemption of the fallen Mankind was devised by God beforehand, as it is mentioned in 1 Peter 1:20: “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”
Throughout the Old Testament we see numerous prophecies about the Redeemer or the Saviour, God has promised us, the mankind, after the fall of man at the Garden of Eden. In today’s reading we see some of the fascinating traits of the coming Messiah, prophesied by Isaiah and quoted by Matthew.
Let us look at them from verses 18-20:
He is God’s servant, God’s beloved and chosen by God: God in His infinite wisdom, chose His own beloved Son for an acceptable sacrifice so that God can spare us mortals, unable to keep the holiness required to see God. All because God loved us, whom He created!
He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets: This Messiah being God’s Son, is the greatest and when He came as one among His creation, He didn’t seek attention or recognition among men, but He was just interested in setting an example for those who follow Him to be with Him in eternity.
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out: Men who are useless or worthless as a bruised reed or smoldering wick, He being the Master had all the right to throw away but He didn’t do it and even today wouldn’t do it. We are all imperfect like bruised reed and sometimes bringing shame to Him like a smoldering wick and still in His mercy and love, He has allowed us to be here. But one day He will judge all of us and that day it is going to change; those who ended up as bruised or smoldering will be thrown into the fire. Before it is too late, let us examine ourselves and ask for Him for help!
And in His name shall the Gentiles trust: Even though the Messiah was portrayed through the many prophecies, most of Israel failed to understand the true nature of the Messiah and rejected Him. But for us who see both the prophecies which were fulfilled in Him and the Scripture written after Him, are able to see the truth unquestionably. Hence our responsibility is bigger in accepting this Messiah who is the only way, truth and life.
He is ever willing to heal our bruises and pour the oil of grace and anointment to remove our smoldering- because He formed us individually and so loved us that He paid with His life for us. Now it should be our first priority to reach the ones (who do not know) with the good news of such a marvelous God!
Quote for the Day:
For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
