Deuteronomy 28 : 1-14

"And all these blessing shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God." -Deuteronomy 28:2

Everyone is desirous of a life of blessing. Some try to chase it by all means but find it elusive. The secret to a blessed life is found in the Word of God. A wise person would rather seek it there than becoming frustrated after choosing the wrong path to blessings.

The first and foremost ingredient in a recipe for a life of blessing is to have God at the centre of it. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” God’s righteousness can be yours through His Son, Christ Jesus, who makes you right with God when you repent and turn to Him and accept Him into your life and make Him your Lord and Saviour! “…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9 NASB). Here is your entry into a new life with God and His blessing in your life.

The next step to a blessed life is to obey the LORD. What God requires us to obey is given in the Word of God. The Bible, the written Word of God is God’s revealed will for man. If we are willing to obey, it will lead us to a life of blessing and satisfaction. It says, blessing shall “overtake you” if we obey the Lord- we don’t have to run after it! Abraham’s life shows us the blessing of simple obedience. Abraham, like most of us, may have struggled over tough decisions, but he yielded to God and acted on His word. When we discern a true call from God or read or hear His instructions we must act in obedience. Obedience to God is not an option- if we want His blessing, we must trust and obey!  Jesus never promised that obeying Him would be easy; but the effort and self-discipline of serving Christ is NOT a burden to those who love Him.

For a believer, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Eph.1:3). What we are in Christ through our position in Him is more important than any material blessing. Our salvation through Christ is the greatest treasure one could wish for as it is eternal and can never fade away!! A godly man is to view the blessing of joy, peace, security, family, people who love and care— more satisfying than the temporary ones like wealth and prosperity.

If only we could learn to count our blessing based on the eternal than the temporal!  Today let us take time to value the things that really count—the “rich” blessings we enjoy each day as given by our Heavenly Father through the gift of each day! “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17). Seek to be blessed in the LORD!

Think on it:

“Salvation belongs to the LORD.

YOUR blessing is upon YOUR people.”

Psalm 3:8
