Unfailing Love? Too good to be true? The word “Love” may be lack-lustre and empty to a generation deprived of its real meaning and experience. The glamour of the soap operas, the film/pop/sport stars that fall in and out of love has taken the punch out of the word “love.” Where can one find a love that never fails and never gives up on us? Dear friend, only GOD’s love is truly unfailing!

 

GOD’s unfailing love is mentioned over and over again in His love-letter to us- the Bible. It says in 1 John 4:19- He FIRST loved us… GOD loved us even when we didn’t know Him, rebelliously walked away from His way and rejected Him- yet His unfailing love didn’t give up on us- He still reached out to us through His Son that we may be won back to His love.

 

When sin entered the world and all of the human race came under the control of the wicked one (1 John 5:19), God did not stand away and watch us perish- instead as it says in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” If I was the only sinful person in the world, He would still have sent His Son to pay the penalty of my sin and die on my behalf so that I wouldn’t die in my sin and be eternally separated from Him- such is the great LOVE that my God has for me (and you too!). Jesus went to the cross, suffered its shame and pain and submitted to its cruel death because He thought of you and me and not of Himself. What is our response to such love?

 

What about when we His sons mess up and run away from the Heavenly Father like the prodigal of Luke 15? See our Father’s tender/unfailing love reflected in this verse: "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." (Luke 15:20). The Father ran! The Father was filled with compassion! The Father hugged and kissed the prodigal who came back to his Father’s love! Behold what manner of love! – while we were still sinners He loved us!

 

There may be times in our lives, when we are down and out and under the crushing weight of the burdens of life and we may want to throw in the towel- it is then we need to reassure ourselves of GOD’s unfailing love! “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you” (Ps.143:8). The hope in His unfailing love is our anchor that helps us through the storms of life.

 

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38,39)

 

Will you come to this GOD, the One who can satisfy us with His unfailing love so that we may sing and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14)? Unlike what the world has to offer- His love never fails; it never gives up; it never runs dry on you!
