The fear of the LORD leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil. -Proverbs 19:23
The desire to live life to the fullest in well-being is in the heart of every human being. The average person thinks of prosperity as material blessings, good health and wealth, prestige, etc.as the benchmark of such a life. But think of it—is that all there is to life?
Man’s ambition without God makes him want to achieve the unattainable, to make it big in life, like in the days of building the tower that would reach up to the heavens (Genesis 11). It is obvious that the fear of the LORD is lacking here. So is with every enterprise that man undertakes to be “god”—in which he feels he can run his life or even “immortalize” it with the advances he makes with all the technology at his fingertips. But little does he realize that the eternal God of the universe has the final say in it all! Life without God is meaningless!
When an appliance is made, only the manufacturer knows the function and its full potential and usually reveals it through a manual. Think of our Creator God who created each of us and kept us on the earth—does He not have a purpose for each of us? Only He knows why we were created and how best we can function according to the purpose He intended for us. Hence—it’s a call to turn to the Creator- a reverential fear and awe of Him should fill each of our lives which help us align our lives to His plan.
In that aspect comes the pursuit of knowing Him- the eternal God of the universe has made a way to experience Him in our lifetime through Christ Jesus who He sent to the world. In the fallen world of sin and its effects, we have been disconnected from a holy God and requires bridging the divide, into a right standing with Him. Jesus Christ did exactly that—paid for our sin with His life and made it possible for us to have meaningful relationship with God in our accepting Him into our lives. 1 John 4:9 says: “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” Life through Christ Jesus is life forever—one that lasts unto eternity.
While He was on the earth, Jesus said thus: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) As stated in the beginning, many want a full life-one that is satisfying and fulfilling. Well, it can be found only in Christ who said He will give it to us when we live through Him. Other pursuits without Christ, lived outside His will and not guided by God’s Word will ultimately lead to emptiness and dissatisfaction. Lives bereft of the fear of God, denying His reality will only end up in disillusionment.
Psalm 25:12 points to us: “Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.” The way chosen by God for each of us is the best way forward in life- but that comes to us when we seek Him with reverential fear. Vs.14 of the same Psalm says, “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him..” Just imagine how the Lord confides with us as a friend does so that we know His good will and walk in His way. How blessed such a life will be!
Friend, the invitation is open to you today to seek God and know Him through Christ so you can have a full life!
Think on: Blessed is every one who fears the LORD,
Who walks in His ways. (Psalm 128:1)
