“…for the LORD has blessed me because of you.” Genesis 30:27[NLT]
A good testimony from a least expected quarter is a good thing indeed! In our reading today, we see Laban, Jacob’s uncle giving credit where it's due seen as in our key verse. Laban acknowledged that the Lord was with Jacob and hence his life was blessed through Jacob!
Jacob was put in charge of the livestock of Laban and as a promised wage for his wives, Jacob had worked hard for 14 years to pay back in full. But we see that Jacob was diligent in his job and that the work of his hands was blessed, as seen in Laban’s testimony. Now it was time for him to leave his temporary dwelling place and move into the promises that God has spoken into his life at Bethel when he had fled from his brother.
Our focus today will be looking into how we are blessed because of knowing God and how that can turn into a testimony for others.
The Blessing of Knowing God through His Son
Psalm 34:8 says, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Tasting can come only through experience. Hence a superficial knowledge of God is not going to help one to taste His goodness- He has to take residence in your life first. Jesus said: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Rev.3:20) Inviting Him into your life establishes your relationship with God and a sure way to God’s blessings in your life. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” We are blessed beyond measure through Christ Jesus!
The Blessing of your life through Christ
Having been blessed by a life in Christ, we are called to be a blessing to others through our lives. This can be in having a genuine concern for our fellow beings who are not saved- we who know Him pray and given the opportunity share the good news of salvation to a dying world -“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor.5:20) Moreover, believers reach out in compassionate ways to being a blessing to those who are less privileged and need our help. Prov.11:25 [AMP] “generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, And he who The waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown].”
A blessed man in Christ can always lookout for ways to be a blessing to others. This can be practiced in every area of his life. At his workplace, when he does his job diligently and keeps an amicable relationship with his colleagues, he is being a blessing to the institution and others who work with him. In the other areas of his influence, when he decides to reach out as the extended hands of Christ, he is being a blessing to others. This will surely cause testimony to come forth from those who have experienced him that he truly is a blessed man of God- sometimes even a non -believer can testify “God has blessed me because of you!” This is seen in the lives of Joseph and Daniel- the kings of the land recognizing God because of their faith in action!
Brothers and sisters, shall we desire in our lives, to have such testimonies of being a blessing through Christ?
To Do: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
