“Go; behold I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.”– Luke 10: 3

Our reading today, centers around Jesus sending the Seventy disciples to share the Gospel. In V.3 He commanded them to go and in V.17 we read: “The seventy returned with joy….”and in V.20 He took their attention to their reward- “your names are written in heaven.”

Luke 10:1 states that the Seventy was APPOINTED and sent in pairs to every city and place Jesus Himself was planning to go. Jesus always sends us to places where He wants His presence to reach – we represent Him! We move under His masterplan! There could be many factors that connect us to a place – but ultimately, Jesus orchestrates the circumstances of our lives to position us in that place.

Jesus sent them, seeing the potential harvest and need of labourer's. Even today, when we seek Him in prayer, the Holy Spirit will connect us with the heart of Jesus to see potential harvest and the place HE wants us to be. Every place in this world is equally important for our Lord – God loved the World and came to save the World (John 3:16)

Psalm24:1 “The earth is the LORD’s and all it contains, the world and those who dwell in it”.

Psalm95:4 “In whose hands are the depths of the earth…. the sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land.”

All people who live in the World are under the authority of Jesus Christ as in John 17:2 “…. You have given Him authority over all flesh,….”

The absolute authority of Jesus in creating and sustaining the universe especially the world and people in it, is evident in the following scripture. John1:3 “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” Col.1:16 “For by Him all things were created, both in heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, ….. all things have been created through Him and for Him.” Col.1:17 “…. And in Him all things hold together.” Hebrews 1:2 “…His Son, …. through whom also He made the world.”

Acts 17:26 “ and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth,…..” Also, Acts17:31 says “ .. He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed …”

The Bible states with clarity that God created the world and all in it through Jesus Christ and when people went away from God through sin, God sent His Son Jesus who created humans, to save humans! What a wonderful loving God we have!!

So it is in the absolute authority of Jesus Christ to send His servants to various parts of the world and to different communities to share about His Love and saving grace! Jesus speaks to Paul inActs 18: 9,10 “Do not be afraid …., but go speak and do not be silent for I am with you , and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”

Jesus after identifying the need of labourer's, sends seventy disciples in pairs with certain unique conditions:

Go, as lambs in the midst of wolves – Luke 10:3. Jesus sends us as lambs – as harmless, innocent, profitable, and defenseless creatures among spiteful, malicious, cunning and cruel men,., (Gills’ Exposition). When we are diligent in doing our duty, the Good Shepherd, who laid His life for us (John10:11) and who promised to lead us (John10:3), who knows us (John 10:14) and who stated that “ no one will snatch them out of My hand.” (John10: 28) will be with us to strengthen us.

When we take up His call to go to that place He sends us, we need to keep our identity of a lamb that would follow only the shepherd listening to His voice. Troubles are foretold, but His presence is assured - “I am with you always .. “ Matt.28:20.

In Luke 10:19,20 Jesus gave them authority over every power of the evil one and assured that nothing will injure them and the promise of recognition “Your names are recorded in heaven.”

There is no alternate plan for God to save the world. Are you ready to be sent as a Lamb with authority to share the gospel?
