A PATIENT WAITING!

Exodus 32:1-35

Monday, 4 July 2022

Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." -Exodus 32:1

We have one of the memorable chapters in the Bible in our reading today— a bitter experience in the history of a newly born nation! When God drew near to rescue His people and make them His own treasure, they turned aside to show their true nature. This chapter talks volumes to our lives even today. Let us examine closely the contents of this chapter in the light of our own lives in this present day.

Trouble in the last minute

Israel was waiting patiently at the foot of Sinai to receive the commandment from God- a very great moment in human history to receive the very word of God written by God himself to be handed down to humans. But at the very last minute, they went astray. Finally, they had to drink the bitter drink of their hearts’ idolatry. What a great tragedy! Here is a great instruction for us, to take care. We might wait long for a break through or an unction from the Lord and at the very last minute, we might enter the very zone of odd temptations and our true nature surfaces and then everything goes downhill fast and we stand on the very same ground from where we started our journey. Beware of this!

True nature of our Heart

We need to be aware that the more we are near to the true light of the Word of God, all the idols hiding in our heart will come out in all their true colors. The light of God’s Word exposes them. If we have any hidden attraction towards anything in our life, it will soon surface the more we come near to God. But instead of seeing it as a disaster, let us understand our fallen nature and surrender before God and repent of them. The same way Moses did to the molten calf, let us destroy the hidden idol in our heart, throw it out and let it be pulverized in such a way that it will never come back to our life again.

Soon after, the true love and adoration to God will surface in our life from our innermost heart. This is what happened to the Levites. Even though they were idolatrous, they found favor in the sight of God because they switched sides at the given time of God’s favor. So, in the same way let us lay aside all these idols from our lives and come to the very side of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and take up the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God and come against everything that is contrary to God and His Word in our lives.

Patiently awaiting His return

As we await the coming of our Lord Jesus, let us keep our lives pure from any idols and await His return patiently. Let us not be impatient like the Israelites. Jesus has been received to heaven and he will soon come back to receive us into His heavenly abode. Please read and meditate 2 Peter 3:3-13; Acts 1:9; Matthew 24:12,48-49; 2 Timothy 3:1-4; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; John 14:3.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I truly need Your grace to keep going until the last minute and be received into the heavenly glory for which I hereby submit and surrender. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
