Psalm 105

Thursday, 11 December 2025

Oh, give thanks to the LORD!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!  -Psalm 105:1

Oh! Give thanks to the LORD! The Psalmist calls us to give the Almighty our praise and thanks! Much of the Psalm recounts the wonderful deeds of the Lord on behalf of His people-His faithfulness to them. Yet let’s look at ways to express our worship to our Creator God in some tangible ways the Psalm points out.

• SING to Him

Singing is an overflow of the heart- a joyful expression of your feelings of adoration, gratitude, love to our God who has done mighty things on our behalf. See how Psalmist uses expressions like “Glory in His holy name,” “Rejoice” (V.2). How often we break into praise by singing to Him—where our words fail, songs that give rise to those emotions pour from our hearts in worship to our God and King!

Make a joyful shout to the LORD…..Come before His presence with singing. (Ps.100:1-2)

• SPEAK of His wonders

Here the Psalmist lists out God’s covenant love and promise to His people and His deeds on their behalf from Abraham to Moses—from God’s call and promise, to settling them in the land of promise! Moses had reminded God’s people of recounting the Lord’s work for them from generation to generation. Psalm 145:3 says“One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.” How many can you recount today of all that the Lord has done for you?! Declare/testify of God’s deeds!

• SEEK the Lord

The Lord Almighty is able to help us in our every need. It is Him and His strength we should seek! When we understand our limitations, our helplessness in many a situation, it’s the Lord’s face we seek, looking to Him to intervene on our behalf Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,

As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the LORD our God,

Until He has mercy on us. – Psalm 123:2

Seeking the Lord’s strength is part of our worship in acknowledging His power to help and deliver us in our difficult situations.

• STIR Up your mind

The Psalmist tells us to “Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders…”(V.5). From time to time, we have to recollect the ways the Lord has helped us, His wonderful deeds in the past. Doing so encourages us when we feel down or overwhelmed at certain times, no knowing the way forward. Proclaiming God’s wonderful works always tells us that we can’t do without Him.

The call for worship: “O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!”(V.6), though primarily addressed to the children of Israel, has significance for every believer today.  Gal.3:29 says “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Chosen by Christ to be His, we have received salvation through Him, making us God’s children. Hence, we heed the call for worship and giving the glory that is rightly due to Him!

When we tell of His wonderful works in our lives, may we give Him honour, that’s rightfully His. Let us remember its His grace and mercy that saved us while we were yet sinners and brought us to the Kingdom of light. Let us always be grateful for His goodness and kindness towards us in providing for our daily needs. As opportunity arises, let us lift His name as we proclaim His works in our lives!

To Act on: Oh! Give thanks to the LORD!
