The LORD will hold you in his hand for all to see— a splendid crown in the hand of God. -Isaiah 62:3 [NLT]

When Isaiah brought forth the word of the Lord, he spoke both warning and comfort to God’s people in the 66 chapters of the book that is like a miniature Bible. From chapters 40 on, prophecies abound about God’s Servant, the Messiah and what He would do to bring salvation to the ends of the earth thereby restoring God’s mission for Israel (Isaiah 49:6). We know that most of it have been fulfilled in Christ and the rest will be at His second coming and the millennium.

Delving into our text today we see how the Lord will restore the nation which had gone into captivity back to their land and reinstate their lost fortunes. But some of the prophecies stated here look to the future time —for e.g.  “...till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth” (v.7)—is something we are yet to witness. But what is striking here is how Almighty God turns things around for His people—from devastation to a glorious future where they would become His delight!

This is the hope instilled in us- be it a church or an individual—this is who our God is—one who redeems us and makes us a crown of glory in His hand (v.3). When God decides to come through for His children, everyone will see it! He is

• God who vindicates (Vs.1-3)

In the past, God’s people were oppressed and ill-treated by their enemies. God says He will vindicate His children- The Gentiles shall see your righteousness,

And all kings your glory (v.2). As the Psalmist says in Ps.37:6, He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.” Yes the Lord will vindicate His people!

• God who renames (Vs.2&4)

The Lord removes the shame and gives us a new name—from being called Forsaken, Desolate, they would be called The Lord’s Delight. That is exactly what Jesus did for us- children of wrath to children of God (1John 3:1) and we are given a new name according to Rev 2:17& Rev 3:12. We the church are the bride of Christ- He calls us His precious and beloved one!

• God who restores (Vs.8-9)

The restoration the Lord promised His people was beyond belief- something they couldn’t dream of. Yet He is a God of His word! Just as Isaiah called for constant intercession before the Lord, we too are to remind the Lord of fulfilling His promises over our lives. What must we do to see fulfilment?

➢ Be a watchman(v6)- a prayer warrior- the watchman’s job is to keep vigil; the same applies to a prayer warrior who is to wear God’s armour and persevere in prayer (Eph.6:10-18).

➢ Pray without ceasing (v.6)-A man of God has said, prayer is like breathing- we can’t do without it. 1 Thes.5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing.

➢ Prepare for the Lord’s coming (vs.10-11)-V.10 points to clearing the way,, taking away any stumbling blocks that are on the path for the return of God’s people. Our lives can get cluttered if we aren’t careful to weed of sinful thoughts, actions that can make us stumble. 2Cor.7:1 says:Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

When we diligently seek the Lord to fulfil His promises over our lives and get ourselves ready and waiting for His return, we can live victoriously as a Christian. If you belong to Christ, whatever you go through today, there is a day He will honour, reward and vindicate you –for all to see.

Our Hope: Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. (Heb.10:23)
