Hebrews 1:1-14

Monday, 22 June 2026

…but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power…. -Hebrews 1:2-3 [ESV]

Written to a community of early Christians, misguided by false teaching and inclined to give up Christianity and return to Judaism, the Epistle to the Hebrews presents a meticulous understanding of the sufficiency and superiority of Jesus Christ and His Covenant. In emphasizing the supremacy of Jesus Christ, Hebrews 1:1-4 beautifully summarizes who Jesus really is. As we mediate on this portion, may we have a deeper revelation and relationship with the Lord.

• Fulfillment of God’s revelation: In the Old Testament, we see how God revealed His will through His prophets. However, God’s full and final revelation is through His Son Jesus Christ, the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies. It is not just the words Jesus spoke, but His very life and ministry that complete the revelation. No one has ever yet seen God. The only begotten God, the One being in the bosom of the Father, He has made Him known. (John 1:18) It is in truly knowing Christ, that we are saved from our sin and grow in a perfect relationship with God.

• Heir of all things: Jesus the firstborn over all creation, the Son of God, is the heir of all things. At God’s appointed time, the Son came to redeem us that we may be adopted sons of God (Galatians 4:4-5). And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ… (Romans 8:17)

• Creator: Genesis 1 reveals the triune Godhead present in creation – commanded by the Father, carried out by the Son and powered by the Holy Spirit. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. (John 1:1-3). As the Creator, it is through Him, with Him and in Him that we are made alive.

• Radiance of the Father’s glory: Just as the beams of the sun emanate the radiance of light source, so Jesus Christ radiates the glory of God. The glory of the Lord has been manifestin Christ as John 1:14 attests: And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

• Exact representation of His nature: ‘For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form’ (Colossians 2:9) While God’s essence is invisible to us, in Jesus Christ is revealed the very nature and essence of the Father. Now we the children of God, with the infilling of the Holy Spirit, are to reflect the image and character of God.

• Sustainer: He is our Sustainer, holding the past, present and future by the word of His power. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:17) In being united to Him, we trust in His power to cleanse us of our past iniquity, sustain us in our daily walk and expectantly await eternity with Him.

• Saviour: In His infinite love for fallen man, God sent His beloved Son Jesus Christ to take the penalty for our sin that we might be cleansed from all unrighteousness and be united to Him. God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him(John 3:17) Through His life, death and resurrection, Christ has bought our pardon. Today, if you confess and believe in Him, He will be your Saviour (Romans 10:9).

• Majestic Intercessor: Not only has He brought to captivity all the powers and principalities, triumphing over them by the cross, this majestic King is now seated at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf. Christ Jesus who died and was raised to life is at the right hand of God interceding for us (Romans 8:34).

Having a greater revelation of this great and awesome King of the Universe, let draw near to Him offering ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to our God!
