GOD’s Purpose for You

Psalm 33

Sunday, 25 August 2024

But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. -Psalm 33:11

The plans of man are hardly foolproof! Not so with the LORD- His plans stand firm forever! Having this understanding the psalmist celebrates the greatness of God, while summoning man to praise Him by giving Him due glory and honour!

In His omniscience, God knows the end from the beginning and hence His purposes cannot be thwarted- “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ (Isaiah 46:10).  No big or best plan of a person/people/nation can take effect unless God decides so. But with God, His plans can never be thwarted. What He plans, He performs!

What was one of God’s great plans that was fulfilled? The Redemption of man!!

The Redemption plan of God is the greatest proof before us, in how He has fulfilled what He promised through generations about the Messiah, the Saviour of mankind. Right from Genesis when man fell into sin, God declared that the Seed of the woman would crush the head of the enemy (Genesis 3:15)-a looking forward to Christ Jesus who would by His death and resurrection defeat Satan. The promise of the Saviour was given in many prophecies, 2000 years before its actual fulfilment!

Likewise, in the life of His chosen ones, like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and many following, God had time and again proven the purposes of His heart for their lives. Each of them in their surrendered lives to God were yielded vessels for Him -for His heart’s purposes planned even before the foundations of the earth  to be fulfilled. Hence generations have proved to us that the purposes of God’s heart stand forever!

There is only one way for every individual to make sure his life is most fulfilled and in perfect alignment of how his Creator meant it to be. Acknowledge the Living God as the One in whom “we live, and move, and have our being;” (Acts 17:28) and allow Him to have His reign over our lives so that His purposes for us can be worked out. "What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, 'Stop, you're doing it wrong!' Does the pot exclaim, 'How clumsy can you be?' (Isaiah 45:9 NLT). As clay in the potter’s hands, our lives can be shaped and formed into a beautiful vessel where the plans of our Creator can be worked out!

To them who are willing to do so, can confidently say, In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will(Eph.1:11). How were we chosen? —In Christ! By putting our faith in Christ Jesus, our sins are forgiven and through Him we are made righteous and acceptable to God. Having now become His chosen, we are ready for the purposes of His heart to be fulfilled in us.

Today, if you are still arguing with your Creator and living in the wilderness of wandering trying to figure out how to make sense of your life, the invitation is open to you—Try Jesus! Do not miss the good plans he has for you !!

Come to Him in simple faith and ask Him to live in you so that you will find fulfilment in His good plans prepared even before you were formed in your mother’s womb. As the psalmist writes in Psalm 139:16 [NLT]: “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

May the plans of the Lord and the purposes of His heart for you be lived out every single day of your life!

Think on it: Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)
