GOD SPEAKS TO YOU!

Hebrews 1:1-14

Friday, 24 December 2021

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past ……has in these last days spoken to us by His Son…” Hebrews 1:1-2

The many voices in the world around us often drown out the voice of God and what He speaks into our lives! HE tries to catch our attention in many ways. Psalm 19:1,4 says: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork…. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” In His works of creation, through His Word, through His servants, in visions and dreams sometimes—our Creator tries to draw our attention to Him!

In times past God spoke to His people through His prophets- they brought the revelation of God. But in the fullness of time, He sent His own Son that the world may listen to Him and be saved through Him! Jesus Christ is “the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature…” (Heb.1:3). Whatever He spoke during His earthly ministry was what He received from Father God. In John 12:49[NLT] Jesus said, “I don't speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.”

Of the many things that Jesus spoke the 7 “I am” sayings stand out in the Gospel of John:

  1. “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)- In saying this Jesus said He is the Source and Sustenance of life!

  2. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)-Man groping in the darkness of sin can find in Christ, the LIGHT of LIFE!

  3. “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9)- the door to heaven’s entry! In Him we find the pasture of abundant life.

  4. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)- The Good Shepherd who gave His life on our behalf so that we wouldn’t suffer the penalty of sin, which is death.

  5. “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live…” (John 11:25)- That is the hope of every Christian that life does not end with the physical death. One who is in Christ, the Resurrected One will have life everlasting!

  6. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)- The ONLY way prescribed by God to reach Him! He is the embodiment of all truth and one who finds life in Him will live a fulfilled life!

  7. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” (John 15:1)- In portraying Himself as the Vine, we who are in Him are the branches- living our lives, drawing from the sap of His grace and strength to sustain ourselves on this earth.

Today we need to heed to the voice of Christ! Jesus spoke to us the heart of God- the heart that yearns for each of His creation to come into the Father-child relationship so that we can enjoy His love and care in our lives.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – this is what He speaks to you today! Would you listen and respond?

Promise: But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12,13)
