Matthew 15:21-39
Monday, 23 February 2026

The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. -Matthew 15:25
There are two major miracles described in our text today, done by the Lord Jessus—one was for an individual while the other one was for a big crowd. The woman, a non-Jew received her miracle by the expression of her great faith in Jesus while in the Feeding of the 4,000 the disciples hardly showed signs of faith that Jesus could work a miracle in that situation.
• The Healing of the daughter of the Canaanite woman
The desperation in which the woman approached Jesus is quite noticeable—she needed healing for her daughter who was demon possessed. Though Jesus seemingly ignored her, we see her pursue Him for her deliverance. In fact Jesus tested her tenacity but trying to dismiss her with a remark which would have offended her; but she was courageous enough to give a fitting reply which amazed the Lord! Children’s bread wasn’t meant to be given to dogs but the woman insisted the crumbs that fell from it was enough for her! What a reflection of faith! Jesus commended her for her great faith and she received her request- she found her daughter healed when she got home.
Brothers and sisters, it takes much determination to pursue through in prayer. Some get weary and give up when they don’t see immediate answers to their requests to the Lord. But this story tells us that there is great reward in steady faith in Jesus! Some delays in the Lord’s response are seasons for growing our faith and leaning on in unwavering trust to see us through. 1Thes.5:17 reminds us: “pray without ceasing...”
• The Feeding of the 4,000
A great crowd of people had been with Jesus on a mountainside for three days, listening to Him and seeing Him heal the sick and had been without food. Jesus’ compassion reached out to these tired hungry people. In expressing his concern to his disciples, Jesus may have tested their faith to see if they would give a faith-filled response. On the contrary, they expressed their lack of provision for such a large crowd of people. They failed to realize that Jesus the Bread of Life, the one who provided manna for the children of Israel in the wilderness (cf. John 6:31-35) is able provide for these people too.
In performing this miracle, Jesus asked them to bring to him whatever resources they had. They brought 7 loaves and a few fish. The usual custom before a Jewish meal in giving thanks is a reminder each time that our sustenance comes from God! That’s exactly what Jesus did (v.36), then broke it and asked the disciples to distribute to all the people. The miracle of multiplication happened in the hands of Jesus! Everyone had enough to their satisfaction and there was left over too! (v.37)
Brethren, Jesus is more than enough for our every need! He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider! Psalm 34:10 says: “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” Remember He is the SOURCE of everything. Its our dependence on Him that helps meet our need. Phil.4:19 says: And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Its having Christ Jesus in our lives by putting our faith in Him that brings His abundant supply for all our need. If you haven’t yet found Christ, invite Him into your life, and say as the Canaanite woman did: Lord help me! He is there for you today and always. Christ Jesus will meet you at your point of need!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to remember that You are more than enough for me!
