“IN THAT DAY”

Zechariah 14:1-21

Wednesday, 19 May 2021

“And the Lord will be King over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one.” -Zechariah 14:9

Encouragement and hope are the underlying themes of the prophecies of Zechariah. The exiles faced the ruins of what had once been a splendid city and a glorious temple. There was much to be sad about, but Zechariah encouraged the exiles with visions of the complete restoration of the city of Jerusalem. The most thrilling vision of all was the prediction of a coming King- the Messiah who would bring eternal salvation and the promised eternal kingdom. [NKJV Study Bible].

The Bible often uses simple and straight language – it is not a mystical book; rather it is a book written by ordinary people to other people, under the divine guidance of God Almighty through the Holy Spirit! Therefore, many a times the messages are direct – hitting the target bull’s eye!! While emphasizing the sure and certain restoration of the city of Jerusalem, the prophet Zechariah specifies a day which was termed “in that day”! Bible elsewhere also speaks about “that day” or “a day” or “the day of the Lord” -it all tells us one thing that there definitely is a day assigned by God at which time several significant events will happen and that all human beings who lived on the earth until that time will have to face!! No matter whether they believe it or not they will have to encounter that day!! Are you ready to face that day?

In that day the Lord will come

In our reading today, the first verse says that “a day is coming for the Lord.” Further, verses 4 & 5 say “In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives….. and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle ……. Then the Lord my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him.” In Acts 1:7 Jesus explained that God has fixed this day by His own authority.

That day will be a Unique day

Zechariah 14:7 – “For it will be a unique day which is known to the LORD...” Several unique incidents will happen on that day. Verse 6 says “in that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle.” Further V.7 continues that “at evening time there will be light”.

In that day the Lord will judge the world

Acts 17:31 says that “…He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.” God raised Jesus Christ from the dead and by which He has made it very sure that on that day appointed by Him, the world will be judged through Jesus Christ!!

The day of the Lord will come like a thief

2 Peter 3:10 says that day will come like a thief – no one will expect the exact timing of that day. The uncertainty concerning the advent of the Lord’s day should not leave us confused but rather concerned – so that we will be diligent every day to welcome His coming. That calls for a meticulous preparation of our lives! We have no room to be callous or complacent. In 2 Peter 3: 11-18 we are cautioned to lead a holy life!

In that day the Lord (Jesus Christ) will be the KING!

It is a very sure fact that the Kingdom of Jesus Christ will reign the whole earth and His authority will become the supreme authority.

Questions to Ponder: Are you ready to face that Day? Have you acknowledged the authority of Jesus in your life? Are you leading a holy life to be accepted by King on that day?
