IN THE ARK!

Genesis 7:1-24

Tuesday, 6 October 2020

Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household,…”

Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive. -Genesis 7:1,23

The account of Noah and the flood is familiar to most of us as a story that signifies someone who did the right thing, thus avoiding the judgment of God against the evil that prevailed in his generation—it is rightly so! But there is a greater relevance for us today if we carefully study it.

When wickedness multiplied on the face of the earth, God could tolerate it no more and decided to destroy the earth and all that was therein (Gen.6:12,13). But Noah who “found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (Gen.6:8) was saved – a remnant in his generation that obeyed God and did what is right. The Bible warns us of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ on which, judgment will fall on all the world who have lived wicked, ungodly lives— Luke 17:26-30: life will go on as normal but those who unheeded the call of the gospel will have to face the judgment of God.

Just as Noah, the “preacher of righteousness” (2Peter 2:5) in his generation would have forewarned the people to turn from their wickedness and enter the Ark to be saved from the great flood of destruction, today preachers of the gospel are sounding the gospel call in all the parts of the world to “enter the Ark- Jesus Christ” that they would be spared from eternal destruction.

What does the Ark that Noah built signify for us today? The Ark signifies:

  • Salvation- Gen 7:1 says, Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household…” This was the invitation to being saved from the flood. Acts 16:31 gives a similar invitation to all: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Again Romans 10:9 says, “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” This is the ONLY way to be saved from the oncoming deluge of God’s wrath that will be poured on this world of wickedness, which is not far off!

  • Security/Safety- Noah had built the ark according to the instructions given by God (Genesis 6). He told Noah to cover the inside and outside of the ark with pitch (Gen.6:14)- this ensured that the ark was tightly sealed from water entering in! When the floodwater immersed the earth and everything on it, Noah and all in the ark were safe and protected- the ark was floating above the water! (V.18). Prov.18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Brothers and sisters, there is safety and security for all who are “in Jesus Christ” and the let the “pitch” be God’s Word and Prayer that seals us in securely until the Day of Jesus Christ!

  • Survival- Gen.7:23 says while every living thing on earth was destroyed, “…Noah and all who were with him in the ark remained alive.” John 3: 36 says, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” Do you want to be assured of a life that does not end even after the life on this earth ends? Find it in Jesus Christ—the One who can save you from the eternal destruction of hell; in Him is eternal life!

Would you enter the Ark of Jesus Christ today and be safe, secure and live eternally?

Promise: …He[GOD] gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
