Life’s Divine Purpose

Psalm 96

Sunday, 13 November 2022

“Sing to the LORD; praise His name. Each day proclaim the good news that He saves.” -Psalm 96:2 [NLT]

The true purpose of an invention/creation is known only to the inventor/creator. This thought can simply prove the significance of why we need God. God created us humans with a divine purpose and only God himself knows our true purpose on earth. Although many scholars try to study the purpose of life, it is impossible for creation by itself to understand its true meaning.*

In Psalm 96 the author tries to explain to the readers how our existence on earth to serve the purpose of God for which He created us, can be carried out:

Reflect your Salvation every day!

Verse 2 says Sing to the LORD; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.” Eph.2:8-9 says:For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Salvation is something we need to experience every day and not just the day we accept Christ into our lives. Our lifestyle needs to reflect the joy of being in Christ. Our thoughts and actions need to reflect the beauty of our Lord in every area of our lives! Share the Good news that JESUS saves!

Verse 3 says Declare His glory among the nations, His marvellous deeds among all the people! When we something exciting happens in our life or we are captivated by something beautiful we can’t help but tell others about it. In the same manner we are expected to share the beautiful experience of Christ to others till the ends of the earth. John chapter 15 tries to emphasize that as true Disciples of Christ we are expected to bear fruit! John 15:5 says “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. In 1 Corinthians 9:16 Paul says “How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!”

Worship the LORD!

Verse 4 says For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise!” The next verses enumerate some reasons—He is not like the gods of other nations, He is to be feared; He is the Creator- splendour and majesty are before Him! We are to worship Him as He deserves all our praise! When we truly believe Jesus is our Lord and Saviour, our hearts will break forth in true worship, singing of His splendour and majesty! Every act we do for God can become an act of worship! Then one day we look forward to worship Him with people of every tribe and tongue, throughout all ages!

Warn the nations!

Verse 10 says “…He will judge the peoples with equity.” We need to warn our fellow brothers and sisters about the Judgement day! We need to let the nations know that JESUS is the risen King! For He is the Kings of kings and the Lord of lords! And He will come with His heavenly armies! “…He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth.”(V.13)

The questions we need to ask ourselves are: Are we able to proclaim our salvation? Are we able to bear fruit? Are we able to worship at all times? Are we able to warn others? Are we ready to meet the Lord? Acknowledge GOD your Creator and worship Him!

Prayer: “Heavenly Father, help me to fulfil Your divine plan and purpose for me! Help me run to the race faithfully for You! In Jesus name, Amen!”
