Ephesians 1:15-23

Monday, 25 May 2026

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of your calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and what is the surpassing greatness of His power towards us who believe.”– Eph.1:18,19

The Book of ‘Ephesians’ can be viewed as an epistle written to believers living in spiritual poverty because they were ignorant of their spiritual wealth! This epistle was addressed to the church in general. The first three chapters explain the spiritual wealth of a believer. However this rich spiritual inheritance did not help the believers in Ephesus – just because they were ignorant of it!

Therefore in his prayer, which is our reading today, Apostle Paul prays they be connected withtheir great riches in Christ!! Is this not the case with many believers even now? They do not perceive their great wealth in Christ and hence do not recognize their immense potential. Paul prayed that their hearts be enlightened in order to know their wealth in Christ!

It is not uncommon that even the strongest believer may pass through times of distress and desperation in his life and feel drained off! He feels ineffective and unable to go forth in his spiritual journey! They too need enlightenment in their hearts to break off such barriers and go forward. Circumstances of life or issues in their relationships might have brought the road block in their spiritual journey!!

You have good news – in the key verse today- the clue to get out of that train of thoughts and your spiritual barrenness and go forward in the power of the Holy Spirit! Allow your hearts to be enlightened – it means to allow the spark of revelation of your spiritual richness and the power and the position that you enjoy in Christ to strike your spirit like a thunderbolt – jolting you! let it shake you!! That is enough to shake off every chain, rid of the barrenness and fend off the fiery arrows of the enemy!!

But how do we get the heart enlightened? -that too when we pass through a time of distress and a time of spiritual blindness!! Psalm 138:3 gives the answer“On the day I called You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.” People in any situation can cry out to the One whose ears are open to their cries (1Peter 3:12)!! God will make us bold – meaning, He will enlighten our hearts!!

Look at this man in Mark 10:46-52- He cried out to the Lord.  He needed sight. Have you lost your spiritual vision? Cry out to the Lord – He will stop at your cry, listen and act! When the people around Jesus saw a mere blind beggar, He saw another marvelous creation of His in that beggar!! The dirty rags didn’t dissuade the Master, because He knew that He is going to give him a new robe!! When he regained his vision back, the first person he saw was Jesus Himself! What a marvelous experience! Dear friend, Jesus is able to remove your spiritual blindness and when you receive your sight, you will be able to perceive Him for Who He is!

Now see this woman in Luke 8:43-48. Jesus testified “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”  Who taught her that she will get a change of life if she touches Him? Nobody!! – yet it is a fact that your life will be changed when you get in touch with Him! “Crying out” also implies to be persisting! She was persistent – nothing could stop her!

Let us cry out to Him – and He will enlighten the eyes of our hearts to perceive Him and power from Him will flow to us.  We will then realize the immensity of our spiritual wealth which is enough to re-vitalize us to go forward!!

PRAYER: LORD Jesus, open my eyes of understanding that I may see and understand You as You are and may Your power transform my life and situation. Amen.
