“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” -Job 33:4

It is quite natural for a person to ask questions like, “Where am I from?”, “What am I here for?”, “Where am I heading to?”- at least once in a life time as God has set eternity in the heart of man (Eccl.3:11). Unless he finds the right answers, he is headed for disillusion with a sense of lostness. God’s Word has the right answers for any true seeker!

We get an answer to one of those questions from today’s key verse-“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” The book of Genesis- which gives us an account of the beginnings of human life and life on the earth tells us how man came to be. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7. Our existence is in God! Paul reiterates this in Acts 17:28, “for in Him we live and move and have our being…” This is the first realization that has to be ingrained in every person if he/she is to find meaning and purpose in life.

The “breath” in the above verse pertains to physical life. But there is something of more gravity which we have to think upon. The first man lost his connection with God when sin entered him (Genesis 3) and left him “spiritually dead.” The fellowship and close relationship that Adam and Eve enjoyed with God was lost to them when they sinned. Through the first man, sin and death entered every generation that followed –“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—“ (Romans 5:12).

What then is the solution? Sin and death need to be conquered so that man can once more enjoy the eternal life that God once planned for mankind. God himself provided the solution as he knew the incapability of a sinful man to meet the righteous requirements of a holy (sinless) God- He provided His own Son- Jesus Christ, who took on human flesh and bore the penalty of sin (the wages of sin is death-Rom.6:23) by dying on man’s behalf so that man’s sin could be atoned for. A person who receives what Christ has done for him on his behalf by faith, becomes “born again”- the spirit in him through the Holy Spirit becomes alive- he becomes connected back with God; The breath of the Almighty gives him life! Jesus said in John 3:5,6: “…unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

The spirit of a man who is now born of the Spirit of God is alive and destined for eternal life with God, though he dies physically. Life in the indwelling Holy Spirit is open to him as he willfully yields himself to the Spirit of God! “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, ….will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”(Rom.8:11). Those children of God, led by His Spirit will be able to live victorious lives through Him.

Friend, if you have been living aimlessly without Christ, make your decision to accept Him and enjoy the new life in the Spirit! The rewards are great!

Think on: You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God. [Col.3:10 NCV]
