O WORSHIP THE LORD!

Psalm 145

Sunday, 31 January 2021

Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, And I will declare Your greatness. -Psalm 145:6

How great is the Lord God Almighty! Most of the Psalms bring forth exuberant praise to the Lord for who He is, that awakens praise within those who meditate on them. Psalm 145 is one such Psalm and we see enough reasons for the Psalmist to lift up His praise to the Living God every day of his life!

His greatness is beyond understanding (V.3)

It is difficult for the finite mind of man to grasp all that God is! As the Creator of the Universe and all that we see in creation, He is the God who brought forth things out of nothing. The Hebrew word “bara” in Genesis 1 is one of its kind, telling us that God did not use any raw material (unlike man) in His creation [ בּרא bârâ is never followed by the material out of which something is made and thus implies creatio ex-nihilo, 'creation out of nothing'*]. That’s GOD! His wisdom and understanding are far beyond the sphere of mortal man. The design and harmony in creation, the intricacy of the mechanics of the human body, the seasons are all baffling to the human mind—one can only lift his hands in awe to our Great God!

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” (Romans 11:33)

His Nature is beyond comparison (V.8)

The Lord’s goodness, mercy and compassion show His concern and care for the crown of His creation— man, which elicits praise from the Psalmist. Time and again, God’s people had sinned against Him and angered Him; yet in His longsuffering and abundant mercy, He forgave them (Numbers 14:18,19) and at the first sign of repentance was willing to reinstate them. So today with you and me- He has made a provision for us in Christ Jesus to pardon our sin and restore us into fellowship with Himself if we are willing to come to Him!

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. (Ps.130:3-4)

His love is beyond comprehension (Vs.14-20)

In His love, God provides for His creation (Vs.15,16). It was that agape love for all humankind that did not withhold His Son being sent to be a ransom for sinners! He gave Christ that those who believe in Him shall not perish in their sin but have eternal life (John 3:16). Romans 8:32 promises us: “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” This should take off every worry from the heart of every child of God—if He cares for the lilies of the field, birds of the air and other creatures, how much more will He take care of you and me who has taken refuge in the shadow of His wings!!

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1)

As David closes the Psalm, he not just declares that his mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord but urges praise from all God’s creatures (V.21). While we His children worship Him and sing of His greatness and love, may our hearts also desire to see many come to know the Living God and His Son Jesus Christ. For Christ only can save form sin—God has given no other name for men to be saved (Acts 4:12). Let us too “call” others to Him so that many from nations and tribes and tongues can worship and praise the Living God!

PRAYER: There is none like You O LORD! May my worship forever be to You, the Living One! Amen!
