Prepare to meet your God!

Amos 4:1-13

"Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!" -Amos 4:12

Amos a shepherd with a farming back ground from Tekoa of Judah, the southern kingdom was sent by God with a burden to the Northern  kingdom of Israel. In those days there was wealth and  prosperity with peace all around, which made the people complacent, proud and arrogant.

They had defeated Damascus of Syria and had been in economic prosperity during the days King Jeroboam II. Peace and prosperity with outward religion in every nook and corner, without putting their heart in it- was the picture of the day in which Amos was called to minister. God was calling His children back to Him from their complacency, idolatry and unjust ways. The rich oppressed the poor and made them slaves in their own land- there was injustice everywhere. Amos came to the scene and voiced his message to them faithfully. He was given various visions and associated messages by God to warn them. But they did not listen but were disobedient even more.

 The message is clear and loud- Prepare to meet your God.

     During the days of wealth and prosperity the Israelites thought that God was well pleased with them because they were blessed financially. A false security kept them from looking into their own lives according to the written Word of God. They never could believe that the same God whom they religiously follow is going to judge them. They could not perceive this message by Amos. But he kept on speaking...'Prepare to meet your God'...

     As we read/hear today’s devotion, how about our own lives— are we complacent? Are we having a religion without our heart in it? Do we listen to God as He speaks to us in various ways? Are we busy with the world and wealth and many other things that take our attention away from God? Then it’s you that God is calling solemnly and saying.... Prepare to meet your God...'

The times are fast approaching as per the end time facts stated in the Bible that our Lord Jesus is going to come back. Are we ready to meet Him? Or are we in a mood of procrastination ...yes I will prepare when the time is ripe..... We don’t know when our life will end in this world. That is the day when we, in our spirit separated from the body will meet our God.. Have we prepared our life well enough to meet with our God? We always tend to keep that for tomorrow. But the good Lord through this message is calling us to prepare to meet our God. It’s a solemn thought good for each of us to live daily— to live soberly.... Prepare to meet your God!

     Today is the day of salvation—Come to Christ Jesus, the Saviour! .... He is calling you graciously.... leave the world and sin-laden lives.... prepare yourself to meet your God ….before it is too late.

Psalm 50:1 ... The Mighty One, God the LORD, Has spoken and called the earth From the rising of the sun to its going down. Are we wise enough to hear this call? If so, respond with fear and trembling…. Our God is a consuming fire. Let the chaff be burned and let us be purified like silver in a furnace to remove every dross from our lives.

Meditate on it: He shall call to the heavens from above, And to the earth, that He may judge His people: "Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice." Let the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is Judge. Selah - Psalm 50:4-6
