Psalm 104
Sunday, 26 May 2024
O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions— Psalm 104:24
God has given man enough time to ponder over the beauty of the earth He created and allowed him to live in. How often in the midst of the fast-paced life, we fail ‘stand and stare at nature in all its glory.’ In our hectic schedules and hurriedness, to achieve and conquer the fleeting things of the world, we have often failed to enjoy God or His creation.
Here’s what the Psalmist has to say about God the Master Craftsman of this beautiful world.
God has authority over His creation – We see around us organizations trying to ‘Save & Protect the World’ in their finite strength. We do have a responsibility to take care of what’s entrusted to us, but it’s very clear that God has the final word.
· Vs 5: You laid the foundation of the earth so nothing can shake it
· Vs 7: At the sound of Your voice, the waters fled to bring more order as it stood above the mountains (v 6)
· Vs 9: You set the boundaries between earth and sea, so the waters could never destroy the earth again
Isn’t it amazing to see God’s supreme authority over His creation? As part of His creation God displays His sovereignty over our lives too. He has the final word over our lives provided we have hand the reins of our lives into His Hands. So, when the enemy begins to rattle us, His love is our stability. When things are out of our control, He sends His word to calm us. Nothing happens in our lives without His knowledge .His plans are to prosper, and not to harm us. (Jeremiah 29:11)
God’s love provides for man and beast- (vs10 -28)- Through these verses we see the tender heart of God reaching down to meet each and every creature’s need. From the provision of water to the wild donkey, trees for birds to build their nests, cliffs as protection for the rock badgers, the provision of food for the young lions from their Creator, we see the Master’s care. Nestled among these verses is vs. 15 where we see God’s provision for man –the crown of his creation. But greater than meeting man’s physical need, this verse speaks to us of God’s amazing provision to our deep spiritual needs.
· The wine represents ‘The Blood of Jesus’ that cleanses us from every sin, giving us a clean heart to be reconciled with God (Col 1:20)
· The oil represents the out pouring of The Holy Spirit into our lives. As 1John 4: 13 says “We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit” thus reflecting His glory in jars of clay.
· The bread represents “The Word of God” that will nourish us to live healthy and obedient Christian lives as we live by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matt.4:4)
God is the giver of Life – Nothing in this world exists of itself— God is the author of life. (Acts 3:15) He not only gives life but holds the keys to death and hades (Rev.1:18) The very fact that God has been seeing us through such hard-pressed and harrowing times, shows that our lives are in His hands (Psalm 104:29&30) The Psalmist understanding this clearly decides to do three things unto God as long as he has breath in him (vs 33&34)
· Sing Praises to Him
· Have thoughts that would be pleasing to Him
· Rejoice in Him
If this is the decision all of us would take, we are sure to bring Him glory and God will rejoice in all that He has made (V. 31)
