Eccl.6:7 [MSG] We work to feed our appetites; Meanwhile our souls go hungry.
The writer of this devotion was truly searching in this world for the satisfaction of his soul and had never found it anywhere in all the seeking. After searching for it many years, at the age of 27, I found it all in Jesus Christ, when He came and took over my life on 14th Nov 1996. It was my first day of soul satisfaction. Ever since, my soul has been nourished and cherished in every way by the Lord Himself. I beg the reader- if you are searching for any real meaning in life, let me assure you- you will never find it anywhere else except in JESUS CHRIST.
The book of Ecclesiastes points towards this great truth from every practical area of life. With a close reading of it, you can have a reflection of your own follies. How foolish for us to search and amass great wealth and fame in a world, which is seen now and not seen when we pass on to the next- eternity which is the reality. A realization of this great truth will bring you to your senses and seek after the eternal realities. Unless and until you get a hold of it, you will never be satisfied- because God has kept eternity in our hearts. Eccl. 3:11 [NKJV]:“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts ...” This desire for eternity is in the soul of every man. But many a time we try to fill this desire with things of this world-riches, fame and other worldly things. But unfortunately the soul will never be satisfied, unless it gets the real thing that it searches for. There is only one source and only one door to this eternity- that is JESUS CHRIST.
So the first step towards this life of satisfaction is to understand how lamentable our position is in this world without this eternal life! Matt. 5:3: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Once we come to the real understanding of this truth, we will search for ways to escape this lamentable position. Matt.5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.” Only a humble soul can accept the invitation of salvation through Jesus. Matt.5:5: “Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” Once we are made humble with the realization of this truth about our real situation then we will have the real hunger. The hunger of our soul- that is hunger after righteousness-to be right with God. Matt.5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
When a person humbles and comes to the Lord and Saviour- then he can be really satisfied. Rom 10:9-11: “..that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME." Romans 5:1: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The real food for our soul’s hunger is Jesus Christ Himself. Only HE can satisfy!
Note: Then the hungry soul can sing that great Psalm in his/her life: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Amen. (Psalm 23:1)
