Judges 13:1-25 Monday, 28 September 2020

"Why do you ask my name?" the angel of the LORD replied. "It is too wonderful for you to understand." -Judges 13:18 [NLT]
The Bible describes many instances whereby those who had an encounter with God asks His name. Other than Manoah and his wife (today’s key verse), Moses is another example (Exodus 3:13,14): “I AM Who I AM” appeared to him in a “burning bush” when he had been looking after sheep in the desert.
Though many who had the vision or appearance of God Most High (El Elyon) could not recognize Him, the “all-knowing God” knew everyone of Israel - His people - whom God the Creator (Elohim) had formed in their mothers’ womb (Psalm 139). Isaiah 49:16 says that God the “Abba Father” had engraved them on His hand. In their history, God has been with them (Jehovah Shamma), their Provider (Jehovah Jireh), healed them (Jehovah Rapha), was their peace (Jehovah Shalom) - the list is too large to include all that God has been, for them. Also God declares that He had plans for each one of them for their future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
In spite of all the miracles and mighty acts done for them by the “Lord of Hosts” and love shown to them as “Heavenly Father” they often erred from the commandments and presence of Adonai – their Master. Every time this happened, The Righteous God (Jehovah Tsidkenu) was displeased with them and this caused them difficulties. This was continuing for years and years and it was doubtlessly proven that men who are in the image of fallen Adam (Genesis 5:3) while trying to please Him with sacrifices of lambs and bulls, failed to understand their God and what God wanted them to be. If it is paraphrased in today’s context, it is – “To love our Heavenly Father with all our hearts, and with all our souls, and with all our minds, and with all our strength and to love our neighbours as ourselves.” (Mark 12:30-33).
At the right time God the Redeemer came to the realm of His Creation as the Son of Man and took a human name, “Jesus” and was with them as ‘Emmanuel.’ He revealed the Word of God to us and became the Light of the world. This Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ who was crucified as the “Lamb of God” and was raised on the third day from the dead. God was pleased with the Supreme Sacrifice of His Begotten Son and made His name, the “Name Above All Names”, which all humans who ever lived, will confess as “LORD” (Romans 14:11) at the appointed time decided by God.
Now the Truth is revealed to us and it is our duty to proclaim the truth that there is no other name under heaven given for the salvation of mankind (Acts 4:12) except that of Jesus Christ. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and His name is Jesus Christ the Wonderful Counselor. His name is full of Wonders because He is beyond our comprehension as the Everlasting God, His love for us is also beyond our comprehension as our Redeemer and He is ever willing to stay in our hearts (John 14:23) and He has given us the power to use His Wonderful name for asking anything to Father God for the glory of God. If we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour ultimately we will be with Him in His glory and His name will be on our foreheads and we will also reign as kings with Him. (Rev. 22:4-5).
Let us worship Him:
“Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations. Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous deeds have been revealed.” (Revelation 15:3,4)
