Deuteronomy 6:1-25

“…The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” -Deuteronomy 6:4
Basic to the entire discourse Moses gives the people of God, is our key thought today- “The LORD our God, the LORD is one!” This is crucial to our understanding of the God we worship and give our allegiance to.
The times we live in are no different (than the Old Testament) where the worship of several gods and deities are quite common. Man fills the need for a being greater than him through several substitutes that suit his thinking or understanding- the so called “gods” or “lords” which are a far outcry of the One True God! Isaiah 44:9-20 outlines the folly of worshipping an idol man makes for himself- V.18 says, ”They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand.” Besides these, man also finds his worship in the idols of self, materialism, power, money, beauty, etc.- these he has exalted in his life far above the True God.
Paul reiterates in Acts 17:24,25: “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth …. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” And it is in HIM, we live and move and have our being! (Acts 17:28). He is the One God, Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 146:6) and Maker of us all (Psalm 95:6), who we need to seek and worship.
1Corinthians 8:6 [NLT] says, “But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.” And as 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus…” God has chosen only one Man who can bring us to Him-Jesus Christ. Being God, He took the form of man, came down to this earth, lived among us and showed us what God is like- Jesus told Philip when he asked Him to show them God: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9). When we believe and put our trust in Him, we come to know the One True Living God!
It is through Jesus Christ we establish a personal, loving relationship with the Living God who then becomes our Father in heaven! He makes His dwelling in us through His Spirit whereby we can experience Him not just as a Father but a Friend with whom we can share even our very deep thoughts and concerns through prayer. Which other god on this earth would establish such a personal intimate relationship with its creation? No, not one! When we come in faith to God, He expects all of our allegiance to Him: "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deut.6:5)—that means, with our whole being! God expects us to love Him, for He Himself is love. 1 John 4:8 tells us: “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
When we give our allegiance to Him wholeheartedly, He in turn promises never to leave us nor forsake us and has already prepared a dwelling place for His children (John 14:1,2) where we will live with Him forever when He comes to take us to be with Him!
Dear friend, will you give Him a place in your heart? The One true God longs to make His dwelling in you so that you can know Him in a very personal way. Give Him your allegiance today! From everlasting to everlasting, HE is GOD!
PRAYER: Dear GOD, I acknowledge that You are the One True God! I come to You through Jesus Christ- accept me today as Your child and make Your dwelling in me. Amen.
