“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” – John 10:9
Jesus sometimes used everyday images to drive home a point. In our reading today He says: “I am the door!” We quickly understand that a door accesses or denies entry into a place. So when Jesus stated, “I AM THE DOOR”—an entry is implied. And being specific-“THE” Door, it points to the one and only entry! Let us look at what this door has to tell us about.
Jesus the Door gives us entry into:
God’s Kingdom
Jesus said, “If any one enters by Me, he will be saved…” Jesus is the door by which you enter into God’s Kingdom. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were driven out of the Garden of Eden and denied entry into it. Subsequently all of mankind is born in sin and under the dominion of satan unless and until a person willfully takes a decision to take the way God has provided back to the entry of His kingdom. And that is through Jesus Christ who said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6). When we come through Christ the door, God delivers us from the power of darkness and conveys us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins as mentioned in Colossians1:13, 14.
God’s Pasture
Jesus is the door to God’s green pasture! Jesus says He is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for His sheep (V.11). The Good Shepherd guards His sheep, taking care of them. In our key verse John 10:9— “going in and out” implies protection of the sheep-fold— there is safety and security in His fold! There is an intimate relationship between the Shepherd and his sheep- they both recognize each other’s voices! Psalm 23: 1-3 speaks what the Good Shepherd does- He provides, so we lack nothing…green pastures…still waters….rest and restoration….leads us through right paths!! Jesus is the door to God’s safe pasture!
God’s Abundant Life
Jesus is the door to God’s abundant life! Jesus said in John 10:10 & 11: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The thief mentioned here is satan whose intention in this world is to steal the peace of the people, kill their spiritual life and destroy their everlasting life in heaven by blocking the chance to be saved. But Jesus gives life in abundance while He intends everyone to have peace with God through Him (Romans 5:1), thereby depositing peace in their heart and restoring peace with others; His joy floods the heart when anyone receives new life in Him! What's more, He grants everlasting life— a life that cannot be destroyed with death! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” A taste of such abundant life is only through Christ Jesus!
Dear friend, Jesus is the Door through whom you can enter to find satisfaction and fulfillment in your life. It is not only access to God’s kingdom but to His safe pasture and abundant life! May you decide to enter in, before the ‘NO ENTRY’ sign shows up…until it is too late and the door is shut so no one can enter. Know the Lord Jesus today so that the door will not be closed to you tomorrow!
To Heed: Open your heart’s door to Jesus who says: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)
