The Sure Sent WORD

Isaiah 55:1-13

Saturday, 07 October 2023

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;

It shall not return to Me void,

But it shall accomplish what I please,

And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “-Isaiah 55:11

Jesus Christ, the Messiah is portrayed both as King and Servant in the prophetic book of Isaiah. Isaiah 55 ties up the thoughts from chapters 40-55 with an invitation to all to participate in the Davidic Kingdom, to seek the Lord and find pardon— the promise being sure to be fulfilled, grounded on God’s Word! [NKJV Study Bible]

Several of the passages in today’s reading gives us assurance in the great GOD we trust:

· God’s great mercy and pardon for the one who seeks Him earnestly (vs.6,7)

· God’s higher thoughts and ways (unlike man’s) towards us (vs.8,9)

· God’s Word that accomplishes what He intends for our life (vs.10,11)

· God’s joy and peace to lead us forth (vs.12)

The key verse gives the assurance of what God’s Word can accomplish! It will achieve the purpose for which it is sent and not return void. See the illustration from nature that capture the work of God’s Word in our lives:

· The rain & snow: are God’s provision to soak the earth and bring produce. Lev.26:4 says, “then I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.” Just like rain soaks a parched earth that drinks it in, so is God’s word for thirsty souls—those wearied can be satisfied, refreshed from the scorching heat of life’s tough times. It is sure to refresh and satisfy the soul! Proverbs 15:23 says: “… And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

· The water/ dew that brings forth bud—light rain and dew are necessary for things to bud and bloom! It revives a dormant thing, springing it to life. Similarly, the dew of God’s Word can cause things to come to life. The Word of God is alive and active (Heb.4:12). You may be thinking of a situation that is hopeless and “dead” but remember that God’s Word of promise can bring life into any dead situation. Can you pray like the Psalmist: “Revive me according to Your Word” (Ps.119:154)

· Seed/Bread: Seed is necessary for planting and eating, in the cycle of life! God’s Word is equated to Seed as we see in the ‘Parable of the Sower’ (Luke 8:4-15). A person is born into God’s Kingdom, “… not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23). Then he is ever sustained by the “Bread of Life” (John 6:35)- Christ Jesus Himself!

In our reading today, God declares that the word He sends will not return void but will accomplish what it is sent for! What is the need for each of us today?—Is it the refreshing Word for the dryness you feel in your life? The Word can refresh you! Or do you need God’s Word to bring to life a dormant situation? Surely His Word is life and power! Or are you someone who needs the Imperishable Seed of the Word to be born again? Get born-again today! Do you need His Word like Bread to strengthen and sustain you in your difficult situation? Ask Christ to strengthen you!

May the Lord speak to your situation today and give you the SURE WORD that can bring about a change. May the promise of His Word to you be yes and amen to the glory of GOD! (2 Cor.1:20)

Be Encouraged: “Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” -Psalm 119:50 [NLT]
