Sunday, 05 October 2025

Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph! - Psalm 47:1
Here is a triumphant Psalm of praise and honor to Almighty God who is lauded as the King of all the earth! It may be national hymn which was sung as the Lord brought victory to the nation as the one described in 2 Chronicles 20 during the reign of Jehoshaphat. Hence it was an occasion where God’s people celebrated the Lord!
Though it is a short Psalm of praise, we can learn how to experience of God in our lives that our thanksgiving will be meaningful
I. The Personal Relationship
V.9 speaks of “the people of the God of Abraham.” It was their intimate relationship with God Almighty that brought in God’s intervention in their lives and their nation. V.4 also points to their inheritance from God because they were a people He loved! Primarily, in every person is theneed for a personal relationship with his/her Creator. Every human being who is disconnected with God are enemies with God because of his sinful nature and requires to be made right with Him—which is possible only through Christ Jesus who has made the way. 2Cor.5:19 says, God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself….; And in Rom. 5:1: we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our acknowledging/accepting Christ as our Saviour and Lord will bring that personal relationship with God Almighty. Its His reign in our lives that ushers in,His involvement in our situations.
II. The Power of God
The power of God is greatly celebrated in the Psalm. V.2 says For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. His power is displayed in defeating their enemies and subduing them. The reference to the “shields of the earth” belonging to God (V.9) shows the powers of the kings of the earth belong to the Almighty- they cannot withstand His power and might! His reign over the nations shows His sovereignty! This gives His children great comfort and hope in God who can interfere in every hard/tough situation with His power to defeat the plans of the enemy. Colossians 2:15 speaks of Christ’s triumph which is available for every believer: And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. When God’s children seek Him to deliver them from tough situations, His power is manifest to overcome!
III. The Presence of God
V.5 reads: God has gone up with a shout…which indicates He was in their midst, fighting their battle, even though He sits on His holy throne to rule over all (V.8). This is a visible sign of His presence with His people in the midst of their difficulties, intervening with His power to bring about victory for His children. Psalm 68:1 says, “Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered;”Every believer can take heart that God’s presence surrounds him/her and therefore needn’t fear in tough circumstances. Hebrews 13:5 assures us: For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
As you listen to/read His word today, friend, where do you stand in your relationship with God? Are you struggling in life and needing help with some issues? Trust God today—let Him have reign over your life so that He may reign over your circumstances and give you His victory in what you cannot solve despite your hard trying. His power and His presence will help you overcome! Then you too can rejoice and sing for joy with a voice of triumph, praising God!
Be Encouraged: Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. -2 Corinthians 2:14
