Mark7:24-37

And He said to her, “Because of this answer go …” Mark 7:29 [NASB]
In the Bible we see Jesus’ interaction with different kinds of people– these are real life instances and so they speak volumes to our daily lives. The most amazing thing is that Jesus did not come just for the Jews, He came for the Gentiles too- as these miracles we read of happened in Gentile territory. Hence remember this truth—no matter who you are, the Lord will hear you when you come to Him by faith.
In today’s text, two groups of people met with Jesus. Both needed Jesus’ divine touch to make the lives of their dear ones normal. The first one is a Syrophoenician woman pleading for her daughter. The second group were people in the region of Decapolis who brought a deaf and dumb man to Jesus for healing.
Both these groups show certain qualities that paved the way for the deliverance of the people they brought to Jesus.
1. When people cannot approach Jesus by themselves, be the one to bring their request to God –
Christ Jesus can resolve any problem, heal any disease and rectify any complicated situation that we bring to Him! Do note that in both these incidents, the direct recipients of the deliverance were not pleading with Jesus! In fact, they could not– as the woman’s daughter was demon-possessed and the other man was deaf and dumb. This is a spiritual lesson for us - there are many around us who are in dire need. We may not be able to do anything for them, but we have this great privilege of bringing their case before Jesus through prayerand our prayer of faith can bring a deliverance in their lives.
We cannot just show sympathy in their difficulty; it’s our prayers that are important for the breakthrough that these lives are expecting.
2. Our response to God’s work in our life matters for our breakthrough-
Jesus’ way of healing the demon-possessed girl and the deaf and dumb man were quite different from the many other miracles we read in the Gospels. Jesus’ conversation with the girl’s mother and the peculiar actions that Jesus did, prior to healing the deaf and dumb are seemingly insulting! However, the way He did it, speaks to us too.
They were tests to see their caliber of faith. As one man of God presented it – if we are standing next in the queue for a healing prayer from Jesus, after seeing Him spitting on the eyes of a blind man (Mark 8:23), would we still wait to receive our healing or would we feel offended and go away? Here the man could see what Jesus was doing, yet he believed that whatever Jesus did would bring him the healing he needed. His faith in Jesus was unwavering, and he was not offended by the method that was used. Would we respond to God in the same manner?
As for the mother, she didn't allow the way Jesus spoke, offend her emotions (v.27); the mom’s focus was her daughter’s deliverance, and she would not let her ego stand in the way of her daughter’s healing. Continuing to persist in faith with her request in spite of Jesus’ words, caused Him to acknowledge her faith – calling it “great” and granted her request. (vs 28,29)
Do we show a humble spirit or are we delaying the answer to prayer because of an offensive spirit? Even today, God’s way of dealing with each of us is different. All that He wants to see in us is our faith, humility and patience as we wait for our breakthroughs. Whatever His method, when others see our need granted, will respond in the same way as written in vs 37- “He has done all things well.”
Remember, His Ways and His Time are always the best! So, may we be confident as we come to Him knowing that He is truly a “PRAYER ANSWERING GOD”
