For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved. -Psalm 21:7
This is a Psalm by David praising God for the victory in a battle. He was quick to openly thank the LORD for his victory which was an answer to the prayer in the previous Psalm. David always chose to put his trust in the Lord more than in any human power and to be clothed with His unfailing love. There is a natural tendency for every man to trust in their own power, fame, resources, cleverness and other supports. But God is above all these so called earthly “gods” we often want to cling on to.
In the fallen world we live in, we are often faced with difficulties and troubles which try to destroy our peace. When we chose to lean on to God, there is an assurance that He will not allow us to be destroyed, instead we will enjoy stability and peace in the midst of all the turbulence of life. This is not an easy path— there may be pain or losses in earthly things but that cannot distract us from enjoying God’s favor. But if our mind is kept steady on the Lord we too can echo these words: “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3) God’s divine promise is that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5 ) no matter what situation we go through.
Every challenge that comes our way is not faced by us alone- GOD’s presence is with us! Let us see a few examples from the Bible itself. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were thrown to the fiery furnace because of their undeterred stand to worship the Living God, there appeared a fourth person in the fire - the divine presence keeping them unharmed (Daniel 3: 25). When Stephen was persecuted, God showed him the vision of heaven – he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:55) and that strengthened him - even to face death courageously. When Paul was about to face the tempest at sea, the angel of the God assured him of keeping him and the crew safe (Acts 27:24,25)—they all came ashore.
My dear brothers and sisters, whatever the kind of situation are you going through now, remember, you are not alone in the battle. See what Psalm 16: 8 says: “I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.” Jesus the Almighty One always stands with us in the midst of life’s trials and troubles, helps us and continues to equip us for His work if we put our trust in Him.
Let our lives be focused on the Almighty God and learn to depend on Him who is able to do much more than we could ever dream (Ephesians 3: 20,21): “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen”
Prayer: Dear GOD, I thank You for Your constant presence in my life which gives me strength always; help me to trust You at all times. In Jesus Name, Amen.
