"WITNESSES OF THE SOVEREIGN LORD"

Isaiah 43:11-21

Wednesday, 16 June 2021

“It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, and there was no strange god among you; so you are My witnesses”, declares the LORD, and “I am God.” -Isaiah 43:12

In today’s reading, God is portraying Himself and His people- a graphic picture of who God is and what He will do for His people!! Let us take a while to understand from today’s Scripture who God is and what He expects of us.

GOD’s Unique Being

  • He is the only Saviour – “I, even I, am the Lord and there is no savior besides Me.” (vs.11)

  • He is from eternity- “Even from eternity I am He,” (vs.13)

  • He is the holy One- “I am the Lord, your Holy One,” (vs15)

  • He is the Creator- “The Creator of Israel, your King.”

GOD’s Unique Doing

  • “I act and who can reverse it?” (vs.13)

  • “Who makes a way through the sea and a path through the mighty waters,”(vs.16)

  • “Behold, I will do something new,”(vs.19)

  • “I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (vs.19)

God explains with clarity to His people that there is no one like Him and Israel is God’s chosen unique people… “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.” (Deut.7:6). God’s uniqueness and His unique acts on their behalf is the basis of these unique peoples’ witness to the world.

Today, whoever has received God’s saving act in their lives, redeemed through Christ Jesus, are God’s witnesses to the world. 1 Peter 2:9&10 says: "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." We the redeemed ones are called to witness this Great GOD who has delivered us from the dark world of sin and the bondage of the evil one and brought us into light, to the eternal Kingdom of His Son. Our redeemed lives will tell the greatness of the God who saves!

If you are somebody who has not understood how great this God is and what He can do for you, its time to come to Him ask Him to reveal Himself to you. God’s mighty acts to His children who has experienced Him is proof enough that He can do the same thing for you! He will do something new in your life—He says, in V.19: “Behold, I will do something new…” V.18 speaks of “former things” you need to let go, so God can do something new!- your old way of life, patterns of thinking, sinful habits—whatever the Lord reminds you of—let go off them! Let Him make your life new! He can make you into a new creation in Him (2 Cor.5:17) and perform His mighty acts where you need His deliverance! Would you ask Him into your life? Then you too can become His witness!

Think on it: Jesus Christ gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. [Titus 2:14 [NLT]
