“…the LORD who …forms the spirit of man within him………..” Zechariah 12:1
Most people at some point of life ask within themselves: “Who am I?” This haunting thought drives several to search for their identity that truly leads them to their Creator in that pursuit! In the matrix of life, many fail to figure out their true identity and true worth. They live a very meagre life and in the end vanish from the scene without having lived life to its full potential!! How sad! A potentially beneficial life has ended without being useful for anybody! The reason- they didn’t know their identity and their Creator and in turn, couldn’t explore the possibilities in their lives!! The Bible gives concrete answers to life’s most puzzling questions. You are a spirit- being!! No matter what you think about yourself, no matter what others think about you – there is a purpose in your life – that was already put in place by your Creator!
In our key verse, God is portrayed as the Creator of the universe and the spirit of man! People are trying to escape from the idea of a supernatural creator – an intelligent Creator with absolute moral values who created the universe, then the earth and all in it and then created man to live in it; a God who is all-powerful and all-loving; who is righteous and compassionate.
Dear friend, when you read this article, please understand the reality that you are the design of God; you are not an accident; you didn’t evolve out from a monkey but you were created by God! Accepting these facts will give meaning to your life; it brings out the real worth of your life:
We are created by God
Gen.2:7: “Then the LORD God formed man….” & Gen 5:1: “In the day when God created man…”
Gen.2:15: “Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden…”
Gen.2:16: “The Lord God commanded the man….”
The above verses tell us that God not only created man, but put him in a specific place and He communicated with man giving specific instructions!! That is true for all of us. God created us and has specific plans for us and He wants to communicate with us!!! When we acknowledge that God created us, we come in terms with the fact that God has a specific plan for our lives and that God wants to communicate with us! Isn’t it exciting to understand that the God who created the vast Universe created me personally with a very specific plan!! This is what we miss out when we reject the divine hand in our creation!
Ps.139: 13-15: “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made….”
Gen.2:7: When God created man, He put the spirit of man in him.
We are purchased by God
The God who created man did not abandon him when he fell in sin and got alienated from His grace and glory. Through Jesus Christ, God made a unique way to reinstate the pristine beauty of each of us back into us; which is like the beauty that was originally in the first man, Adam!
Rom 3:23- “ for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God ” By accepting the Lordship of Jesus Christ in each of our lives, we acknowledge the ownership of God in our lives and God puts His Spirit in us. Rom.8:15: “you have received a Spirit of adoption as sons …” Gal.4:6: “Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts…”
We are being transformed by God
Although we start our journey with God by acknowledging Him as our Creator, there needs to be a growth in each of us that would help us meet His standards. The purpose of our life is clearly defined in Romans 8:29 “…He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…” In other words, Christlikeness is our purpose!! God does a gradual but constant process of changing us! 2 Cor.3:18: “But we all………are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory….”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I understand what it means to be Your design and may Your purpose be revealed in me. In Jesus name, Amen.
