2 Kings 6 : 8-23

‘So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”’ -2 Kings 6:16[NKJV]

Picture a giant’s overwhelming figure before you such that you felt dwarfed and just wanted a place to hide in! Well Elisha’s servant would have had a similar notion when he saw an entire army of the enemy surrounding the city they were in and felt there was no escape! But the prophet’s answer was a word of assurance for him (our key verse), which also holds good today for every child of God in any overwhelming situation.

The enemy of Israel who wanted to see its downfall was planning different tactics to raid the land. Prophet Elisha faithfully forewarned the king of Israel such that they escaped. Then the enemy’s target came to the prophet, wanting to do away with him. But we see God’s decree, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.” (1Chron.16:22) fulfilled in Elisha—the enemy could not touch him; God’s angelic army protected him!

So often we are faced with daunting situations that leave us stumped to the point that we are unable to even move an inch further. What should be the response of a child of God in crises like these? Let us see how Elisha responded to a life and death situation in his life:
•    A Faith in the LORD above the crisis: When the ill report of the surrounding enemy came to Elisha, he was unperturbed. He saw the Master of situation above the very situation itself. His words, Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” speaks volumes to us today. We are to put our trust in the ALL-POWERFUL GOD who is sovereign and will not allow anything to happen to us without His knowledge. Jesus said in Luke 12:7: “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore;…..” If He cares for the minutest thing in our life of even which we aren’t aware, how much more will He guard your life!

•    The eyes of faith that see the answer: Elisha asked the Lord to open the eyes of his servant to see the horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha, which he could already see through his eyes of faith. His eyes of faith saw the more powerful and stronger army of heaven guarding him! Like Moses who kept his eyes on the One who is invisible (Hebrews 11:27), let us see the invisible hand of God in our lives that will ever guide us and provide for us the right solution for our problems! Jesus spoke in John 16:33 [NLV] “…In the world you will have much trouble. But take hope! I have power over the world!”

•    Prayer in faith for the Lord’s move: Next we see a few actions by Elisha who prayed in faith to the Lord for Him to act on the enemy. The enemy’s army was blinded and literally they were helpless and at the mercy of Elisha who they had come to destroy. Exodus 14:14[NIV] says, The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still. If we allow God to make the moves, He will do the right thing to thwart the enemy. Our part is to pray in faith and allow Him to direct the course of our actions. Even the enemy will be out to shame as the Lord will fight our battles!

Dear child of God, do you feel yourself drowning in a crisis or are you unable to get out of a murky situation? Call out to the LORD Jesus who can deliver and save your life! Let Him be your Invisible Guide all through your life!

Quote for the Day:

“If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer– His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable.” ~ John Newton
