THINKING OF ME

Psalms 139

"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!" – Psalm 139:17[NLT]

What a thought!—“Someone is thinking of me always!” Most often people are remembered on occasions of anniversaries or special days. We send them notes/cards of “thinking of you…” But our Creator doesn’t wait for special days to think of us- He is thinking of us even more than we do of ourselves!!!

God’s complete and intimate knowledge of man is the theme of this Psalm.

  • He knows your movements (vs.2&3)

  • He knows your thoughts (vs.2)

  • He knows what you are going to speak (vs.4)

  • He knows where you are going (vs.7-12)

  • He knows every intricate part of you (vs.13-15)

  • He knows every single day ordained for you (vs.16)

When we understand how intimately God is connected with our lives, there are two responses that ought to come from us as did the Psalmist:

  • A Praising: “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”(vs.14)Just as a Master Craftsman takes time and intense care in chiseling out his work, so has the Architect of our life intricately woven every detail of our innermost parts that causes us to just exclaim: “Wow!” A lay man cannot even comprehend the marvel of the working of our body system- how wonderfully God has designed every bit our system to function in coordination- truly you and I are walking miracles! How much we ought to praise our Creator when we behold in ourselves the amazing handiwork of God!

  • A Probing: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (vs.23,24) As the Psalmist is humbled by the greatness of God in His intimate knowledge of him, he understands that he is not all that God would desire him to be. Hence he asks God to shine His searchlight into his inner self so God would reveal his heart to see if any wickedness lurked within that he himself couldn’t see. For us today, we have the Holy Spirit within us and God’s Word that reveals when we try to veer off course God’s path. When we give ourselves to prayer and the meditation of God’s Word, it will light our path in the direction God wants us to go.

Hebrews 4:13 says, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” It is an awesome thought yet so unnerving! How ought we to conduct our lives when we realize that we cannot run away from Him at any point of our lives- the Living God has His eye always upon us. Every single day of our life is written and to Him one day we must give account of how we spent the precious life He gave to you and me.

Yes, we stand in awe of our Creator and the Originator of our lives! Yet His love for the crown of His creation is awesome! He has us constantly on His mind and His thoughts towards us are precious!! Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” If you are someone who has not acknowledged the Creator of your life nor given Him the rightful place in your life- precious one- remember He is thinking of you now—would you turn to Him who has a good plan for you? Would you invite His Son Jesus Christ to put you right with God? May you find a future and hope in Him!

Thought: “ For we are His workmanship…….”(Ephesians 2:10)
