LIGHT YOUR LIFE WITH HIS WORD

Psalm 119:97-112

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” -Psalm 119: 105

A Compass helps us find the right direction. Its needle always points north, thus guiding us in the desired direction to reach the right destination. If the compass points north, south, east, west at different times, it defeats its intention of guiding us the right way. We would wander and even lose our way. In the same manner, God has given us a “spiritual compass” for the journey of our life! That is the Bible- GOD’s holy Word! It always points to the truth of life, in the same direction, and to the eternal life-giver Christ Jesus. For Jesus said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.” (John 14:6).

Today’s key verse which defines God’s Word as “Lamp” and “Light” urges us to let our life’s journey be guided only by His Word. Some people turn to many other ways when they are confused or lost in their life’s journey. Our present-day generation has less patience- they want instant answers/quick fixes to their problems which pulls them in the direction of the horoscope, popular and friends’ advice, “google search” etc… Unfortunately, many fail to understand that there is only one thing that we can trust to always point us in the right direction, and that is the Bible!

God’s Word as Lamp & Light is –

  • Ever needful

Man needs guidance for every single moment and every aspect of his life, to shed light in his path so he wouldn’t stumble. God’s Word has guidance for every situation in life. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness…” We receive God’s timely help for all our situations: “Call upon Me on the day of the trouble, and I will deliver you” (Psalm 50:15)

  • Beneficial to all

It is beneficial for every single person in this world-  it can lighten the path of young and aged, the rich and the poor, the single and the married, the sick and the healthy, businessmen, rulers, philosophers etc… God’s Word can speak to people from all walks of life! Proverbs 6:23 NASB says, “For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life.”

  • All sufficient
It will be enough, whatever may be the intensity of your problem. Whatever crooked, dangerous or slippery path you may have chosen, His word will be sufficient to take you through to a straight path if you decide to follow its instructions. Though we toil for physical bread, God’s Word will ever satisfy our spiritual hunger: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’ (Matthew 4:4).

  • Inextinguishable

It shines as bright in the hands of the youngest disciple of Christ today as in the hands of the old patriarchs. “But the Word of the Lord endures forever…” (1Peter 1:25). Jesus said in Matthew 24:35“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."

The path of human life is for everyone to pass by on their own- it never pauses and there is no return. Thus life is a walk which requires constant light. Many things can light our path, but God’s Word stands above all other lights!
