THE CALL OF GOD

Exodus 3 : 1-22

So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am.” -Exodus 3:4

Ordinary men called out by God for extra ordinary purposes in life! Great men of the Bible are really such men made capable by God for executing His great purposes upon this earth.

Call of Moses:

God's plan for Moses' life was clear even from his very birth itself. His parents understood him as a child with divine calling upon his life. At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father's house for three months. (Act 7:20) This made them take extra steps to safeguard him. Later, when his mother laid him in a basket along Nile River, he was rescued by the Egyptian princess and was brought up in the palace as heir to the kingdom. But since God's hand was upon him all through, he understood along the way that he was to rescue his brethren from bondage and slavery. Humanly speaking this could have happened after he became the next Pharaoh. But God's ways are different!! He had to bring His chosen one to a place of solitude, alone with Him for 40 years to teach the valuable lessons in the wilderness. Only then God's intended purpose could be fulfilled through him.

After finishing God's special dealings in the wilderness, God calls out Moses and sends him back to Egypt as the deliverer of the Israelites. The very reason for this kind of treatment for Moses teaches us a valuable lesson- that God was allowing Moses to be identified with his own people. He went through the difficulties just like them and learned to be one like them. This is very important in our call and separation as well. We see the same pattern in the life of Jesus also. Jesus was made nothing to become one like us, knowing all the pains of this human existence before he could be given as the Deliverer of mankind. That is why the writer of Hebrews writes: For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

Our very life will be so ordered by God Himself through various circumstances to make us one like our brethren in order to serve them effectively. Many times, when God orders us through those paths, we may not even recognize it, but He will take us through and prepare us for our life’s purpose upon this earth. All the education and experiences given to us by the Lord will ultimately serve His grand purpose in this world. So if you are passing through a time of solitude or difficulties do not worry— God is preparing you for a greater purpose in life.

How to hear God's call:

Many are puzzled about their call today. Basically, it is a gradual understanding rather than a sudden and mysterious call out from the blue. Through various circumstances in life and from the Word of God we understand that it is God who is calling us for His greater purpose. Then we will get tuned to it along the way. God will be in charge over your life to turn you around at every path of your life. Finally, when God sees that you are able to go forward, He will anoint you and send you for that very purpose of your life for which He has brought you forth into this world.

Think on it:

“For who has despised the day of small things?—”
