THE CALL OF A LOVING FATHER

Psalms 53

“God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” -Psalm 53:2

God created man in His own image and likeness and wanted to dwell among them. But man’s disobedience had made him leave the presence of God. A loving God could not leave His creation to be destroyed and made provision for us to be restored to Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

God looks down from heaven on all mankind and sees whether they will turn to Him. He looks at the hearts of men- for nothing is hidden from His sight. 1 Chronicles 28.9 says that God searches all hearts and understands every intent of the thoughts.

Why have people turned away from God?

  • Foolish: Verse 1 states: ‘Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”’ He is a fool who is unwilling to acknowledge God even when His invisible attributes are clearly visible in all of creation and His eternal power is manifest for all to understand (Rom.1:19-22). Fools deny the existance of God even with such clear eviences before their eyes—the planetary system and their working, the miracle of life, the human mind and our conscience, emotions, etc can’t just shrugged off, but points to an intelligent Creator-GOD Almighty! But the fool deliberately decides to put God away from his life and turns away Him.

  • Heart is corrupted: Verse 3 says, “together they have become corrupt.” Romans 1:21 says: “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Continued rejection of God and His Word causes hardness of heart in that such people lose thier ability to recognize sin and wrongdoing.

  • No Understanding: Verse 4 says, "Can’t they understand anything?” [TLB].  These people live in the futility of their thinking (Eph.4:17). Hence, “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” (Eph.4:18). Its terrible to lose the sense of understanding as  they can go further and further away from God.

But still through the Psalmist, God in His Love is calling, looking to see if anyone will understand His call and seek Him. Psalm 53:8 says, Salvation will come from Zion- this was God’s declaration of His provision for salvation to mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ.

God is talking to us through Isaiah 1:3 that the ox knows his master the donkey, his owner’s manger but His own people cannot understand Him. Paul warns in Hebrews 3:12“…that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.” Isn’t it time for us to leave our foolish thoughts and corrupt ways and turn to the Living God? Once you are convinced you have turned away from God, its time to repent and turn to the Lord so that your darkened heart may receive His light. He only can cleanse you from sin and save you!

Prayer:

Almighty Father, I surrender my whole being into Your hands and I accept the salvation You have made for me through Your Son, Jesus Christ.  May You rule and reign in my life till I meet You. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
