Genesis 1 : 1-31
“God saw all that He had made and behold, it was very good. ….” – Genesis 1: 31
In the creation account of Genesis 1, at the end of each day, it is written, “God saw that it was good.” At the end of the sixth day, it is written: “it was very good.” When everything created was good in itself, it was very good when all of them were put together. Each day’s creation had a purpose and that purpose became meaningful and complete when God saw how each day’s creation complemented the other and how all things survived together.
The sixth day saw the creation of man – everything until then was good, but after the creation of man, God’s purpose of creation was complete and it was declared VERY GOOD. Though other creations were self-sustainable –the purpose of their creation was not complete until man was created and placed in control of everything.
God created everything by His word, but when it came to man, He did not command him to be made but made man in His own image, by God’s own hand – so precisely, so skillfully and so beautifully – men and women reveal the magnificence of God! He established certain uniqueness in man– God gave man a mind and a spirit-so distinctive from other creations. God communicated only with man! The manner of living for other creatures is in-built in them; however, with man God started to communicate!! God knew the capacity of man – so He made him in charge of all other creation!
It is so beautiful to observe that after everything was created, God instituted a family!!- the first institution God established! Gen.1:27 says - “male and female He created them.” And it is this family that is going to make all other creation of God meaningful by managing and tending them through divine communication that they would receive from time to time. God did everything so beautifully. There was unity in diversity; there were beauty and benevolence- everything was functioning so beautifully that it echoed the harmony in God Himself- the Holy Trinity functioning in unison (Let us make Man in Our image……Gen.1:26). There was harmony, beauty, and purpose in everything; in all creation of God!
Even the human life God created, is designed to reflect divine beauty, to be harmonious and to be purposeful. Are we so? We often see people on whose face reflects hideousness, functioning in disharmony with God, and in discord with everything around them, living as if there is no purpose for their life or searching for one!! Where is the disconnect? How did it happen? In the entire description of creation in Genesis-1 starting from Gen 1:3, when there is no reference of evil or sin or sickness or calamity or anything negative- where did all these problems arise?
The answer is in Gen3:1 – Satan (who came in the form of a serpent). The same element that tried to destroy the plans of God in man is still at work -2Cor.11:3 “…as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” However, God has already established a plan to reinstate our pristine beauty and harmony and purpose. The fallen man can be restored through Christ Jesus whom God sent to earth to reconcile man to Himself: “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.” (2Cor.5:19 NLT) When we accept Christ into our lives, God’s plan and purpose start to work until His divine beauty, purpose, and harmony are ultimately fulfilled.
-
Divine beauty – “… we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1John 3:2)
-
Purpose – Romans 8:29: “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
-
Harmony – Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Would you align your life for this plan?
Prayer:
Dear GOD, may my life reflect Your divine beauty, purpose,
and harmony as I yield my life to Christ.
Amen.
