THE SHOWERS OF BLESSING!

Leviticus 26 : 1-20

“…then I will give you rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.”- Lev.26:4[ASV]

A refreshing rain in the midst of a dry summer is so welcome! It soothes both nature and our soul. It changes the mood of the atmosphere and the sky will become clear and colorful. All around us we’ll see green grass sprouting and the nature enjoying the freshness. It’s the same way, to us when the heaven’s doors are opened, and our soul receives the refreshing rains from heaven. God is faithful to send His rains, provided we are ready to receive it!

The first rain that a person receives is the time when he or she turns towards Jesus. (2 Cor. 3:16 ESV)"But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” -the veil that blocks us from enjoying all the freedom that God gives His children. The veil that blocks the blessings of heaven is removed as a person repents of sin and surrenders his or her life to the Lord. When we turn towards our Savior there is a sudden change of our nature. It is refreshed with the cleansing showers from heaven, with the freshness of a forgiven spirit.

All the blessings in the word of God are conditional. As we see in our reading today, God reminds His chosen children Israel, time and again, how important it is to obey God at all times. All their blessings and deliverance are attached to this one condition. They were called to follow God in complete obedience. Then they were promised with blessings bountiful. The greatest of all blessings is that God will be in their midst. Lev.26:11-12: "I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people."

Today Jesus has given the same privilege to His beloved Church. Matthew 28:20: "…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." It is good to note again that this is conditional in that we need to observe all that He has commanded. An unconditional surrender to obey God in all that He commanded is the sure way to real blessedness. Are we ready for it? —Then we are surely under an open heaven to receive the showers of blessings foretold in His Word!

Surely this isn’t possible with any human endeavor. We need grace to obey! We need strength to obey! Jesus said without Him you can do nothing! John 15:5“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” So the same God, who commanded an unconditional obedience, will become the God who enables us to do so. So then, what is left for us to do? It is our sincere willingness to walk according to His commandments. The enablement and the strength come from Him!

Think on it dear friend: ‘If you look up into His face and say, "Yes, Lord, whatever it costs," at that moment He'll flood your life with His presence and power."- Alan Redpath

Prayer:

Dear Father in heaven, I am ready to obey You unconditionally;

please fill me with Your presence and enable me to

obey through Your grace. Amen.
