Numbers 12 : 1-16
“Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household.” -Numbers 12:7
What a testimony to be heard from God Almighty! It is a pointer to a “better” faithful servant – Jesus Christ! In Hebrews3:1-6, the life of Moses is compared to that of Jesus. However, this is also a reminder to each of us about God’s purpose for our lives – we have to be a faithful servant in the house of God!
Faithfulness is a divine attribute and the mark of a believer in Jesus Christ! Deut.7:9 says, “Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God…” Hebrews 3:2 says, “He (Jesus) was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.” God is faithful, Jesus is faithful, and every believer is instructed to be faithful— Rev.2:10: “…be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
The word faithful [PISTOS in Greek] has the following meanings: Worthy to be believed; true/just/trustworthy/observant of and steadfast to one’s trust, word or promises. It is interesting to note that in the Greek, the word used for a believer of Jesus Christ is the same (Refer 1Tim.6:2; 2 Cor.6:15). This implies the fact that every believer, is intended to be a faithful servant of God!
Are you a faithful servant of God by the following standard?
1. Serve the Word
Matt.24:45: “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them food at the proper time?” For the believer, the food to be served is God’s Word! In Luke 9: 13 Jesus said, “You give them something to eat.” So every believer is like a servant responsible to give food (The Word) at the right time to the household of God. Lamentations 2:19 instructs us to pray for the “Life of the young children, who faint from hunger, at the head of every street.”
1Cor.4:1&2: “Let a man consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.”
Be faithful in the mysteries of God – which is available in God’s word and be ready in every season with the Word to minister to those who hunger for it!
2. Multiply the Talents
Matt. 25: 21 & 23: ‘His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things…”
Whether it be one or many, whatever talents/s the Lord has given you needs to be put to use and multiply! In the parable in Mattew 25, the Master is very keen to see the increase of each servant of the talent entrusted to them!
3. Be faithful even in the least
Luke 16:10&11: “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much…..Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?” The principle is being faithful in the little entrusted to you so that you can be given charge over much. A servant of God needs to show faithfulness not just with God’s work but the job he does in the workplace.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8). So His plans for each of us is the same, even now! We are called to be faithful in the little and the big- whatever He has entrusted in our care!
Can we also say like Paul?: “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry….” (1 Timothy 1:12)
