A prayer for God’s intervention- that’s the theme of Psalm 143, whereby David cries unto the Lord during a time of hopelessness and trouble. As we ponder over David’s prayer let our hearts acknowledge that without the Lord Almighty, in our lives we have no Hope.

His Love never fails [Ps.143: 8]

​

The love of God for mankind is ever flowing; His love never fails (Psalm 136). We can trust Him even in our worst times of failure- because He never gives up and constantly longs for His children to look to Him and return to Him.

As it says in John 3:16, God so loved the world that He sent Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of mankind that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) will never perish but have the everlasting life. When we look into Hebrew 4:15-16 it says “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Rescues us from our Enemies [Ps.143:9]

​

When we look into the life of David, we can see that God has over and over again rescued him from the clutches of destruction. Saul tried to kill David many times but God through different means protected him and sometimes through most unlikely means! One of the many people God used to recuse him was Jonathan who provided David with wise counsel and also interceded for David to Saul. Again, God used Michal David’s wife who helped him escape through the window while the soldiers had arrived to kill him.

Humans will not be able to fathom the plans of God. But God in his divine love through different ways will ensure the protection of His children. As it says in Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper…”

His Spirit helps us [Ps.143:10]

​

David acknowledges that without the guidance from the Spirit of God, he will not be able to His will. When Jesus spoke of His departing from His disciples He said, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth….” (John 14:16,17) God sends His Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us. The Holy Spirit helps us in so many ways:

* Sanctifies us -  Galatians 5:16
* Helps in our weakness – Romans 8:26
* Teaches us - John 14:26
* Assists us in prayer – Jude 1:20
* Opens our spiritual understanding – 1 Corinthians 2:12

Can we pray as David did: "…may your good Spirit lead me on level ground." ? (V.10)

God is the Almighty Creator, and nothing takes place without His knowledge for He knitted each of us in our mother’s womb and knew us even before we were born (Ps.139:13). Even the hairs on our head are numbered! (Luke 10:29). For only the Creator best knows His creation. As David acknowledged the need for God in His life, let our hearts long to have this relationship with God not just in in the time of trouble but always! For His love for us is unfailing and He eagerly waits for His children to seek Him!
